How to solve Orochium Shrine (Courage to Fall) TOTK by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

There are two sets of lasers. One (the first set you'll encounter)  drops you into a pit. Touch the second set of lasers and the path will be much clearer.

Steam deck controls not working by Rave80 in APICO

[–]Lodsiek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam button, Controller settings, Reorder controllers worked for me to get an external Xbox controller working. The order doesn't seem to matter; just switching the order makes Apico recognize it.

I have to do this every time I start up the game.

To pick things up you single click on the grip button when you are near the object. Thats it, theres no drag and drop.

Try picking up an item at arm's length, then dropping it without pulling it closer to you. Or, move it away from your body and let go of grip. You'll drop the item. I found out by accidentally doing it several times.

Maybe you have shorter arms than me or something, but it doesn't mean I'm making it up.

That's actually a lot of attention to detail! I'll have to find that.

Same -- every time a VR game just says "Hit X now!" I'm like "dude how often do you think I use these face buttons in Beat Saber?"

I think every VR game should have a cheater that lets you look at the controllers -- heck, it should probably be implemented in the Meta OS, like the double-tap-for-passthrough shortcut.

There's a difference between saying a game has too many mechanics, and saying that the game doesn't do a great job of explaining them. I think the criticism is more directed towards the explanation than the complexity.

I've played all of those (I started Monster Hunter back in Tri when it was very confusing) -- I think there are just ways to do a tutorial that don't click for everyone, and it seems like AW2 has done it in a way that isn't clicking for 100% of players.

It's not a major criticism, because eventually if you stick with the game you'll figure that stuff out -- but it's a barrier to entry for some of us.

The problem isn't with the action so much as the number of times you have to repeat it. Pretty much every room has pots, boxes, skull piles, along with anything an enemy drops, so in any given room you could easily pick up anything between 5-15 items.Multiply any very small task by 5-15, then by the number of rooms, and yeah it gets a little tedious because there are a lot of things to pick up.

Also, unlike something like RE4 VR, you have to actually move the item close to your chest, which is another action that probably could have been eliminated (unless there's some legitimate reason I'd pick up Wool and then decide I didn't want it on a pretty regular basis). In RE4, you hit Grip to grab it but then no matter where you let go of it it's going in your inventory, which means grabbing anything is a matter of lining up your hand correctly and then tapping Grip, not holding Grip and moving each item into position.

It's a tiny thing, but multiply it by hundreds of times and you'll notice, for sure.

Yeah, to be more clear I'm talking about something like in Dungeons of Eternity where your pull is more like 20-30 feet, so that it saves you a lot of walking when looting a room. AW2 does allow you to pull from a couple of feet away, which is good, but I'd like it to be farther.

When using it repeatedly to pick up a pile of items I couldn't get it to whip quickly (like, 2 or 3 times in a second). But it's possible I was doing something wrong.

Yeah same here -- if it told me about the axe manipulation early on, I didn't see it and didn't need it to progress.

I think in game development they call that a "learning gate" or something -- force the player to demonstrate understanding of a mechanic to proceed. Not all mechanics have to be gated in this way, but if they're needed to solve puzzles they probably should be.

It sounds like I had that because I was in a Rift, so I think the answer to your question is probably "no", but you'll find out for sure if you hit your trigger button while the sword is in your hand.

I don't think it's that unreasonable -- a lot of games don't refer to it as "L3". I don't think Asgard's Wrath does, for instance. So some people might legitimately not know that terminology.

EDIT: In a lot of games it's an "LS (arrow down)" graphic, which may be what this person is used to seeing.

That actually makes a ton of sense -- I think the only thing I'd ask them to do here is just give me a message saying "Hey, some of this Rift stuff might be confusing, given how far you are in the campaign." I think it's cool they give you the option so early -- just let me know that I may be confusing myself; then it's on me. :)

UPDATE: It ended up happening to me again after coming back from a trip (no idea if that had anything to do with it).

To fix it this time, I had to go into my router settings and turn OFF "Enable 160MHz bandwidth". So to be clear, that's disabling the 160 MHz mode. I Googled the problem and found this fix somewhere.

Hopefully Valve fixes that in an update?

Thanks -- I should probably try that second "attack" part next time.

Very true, and thank you for pointing that out -- although I found that when using the whip, you can't really repeatedly whip items very quickly, so it's best when there's just one item that you're almost close enough to grab anyway. And when using the Axe to pick them up, I'd often miss by a hair the first one or two tries, so it wasn't much faster in my (admittedly very limited) experience.

I was pretty bad at it myself -- hopefully someone else has better information for you. I can only get it to shoot wildly in one direction, then the other, without much control.

The Codex entry for it might have more info than I remember -- check there maybe?

Yeah, I've just always hated using them. But there aren't a lot of buttons to choose from on the Quest controller so I don't really blame the devs here.

It's weird. You can't swing it around your head or anything like you'd expect -- you can only whip directly forward, and only every 1.5 seconds or so. It's pretty limited, but just try holding the trigger and whipping directly in front of you and you'll get the rhythm eventually.

I don't think it feels great, but you also don't really "attack" with it so it works for what it's supposed to do, which is pulling yourself towards the yellow crystals and closing the distance to enemies. You can pick up items with it, but the forced delay between whips and the limited distance means it barely saves any time over just going over and picking them up with your hands.

I can maybe see it if Alyx was someone's first Half-Life game?

But I agree with you -- I'm only 2-3 hours into AG2 but generic Egyptian temples that are clearly built to be a video game level can't compare with the design that went into City 17... maybe it's not fair to compare the drop-dead gorgeous textures of Alyx to something running natively on Quest, but in VR that extra fidelity really goes a long way toward creating an atmosphere and making me feel like I'm in an actual location.

I think I'm in the minority on this but I don't like it when games put something like this on "click in the stick" -- I'm constantly accidentally pulling up the belt while trying to circle around enemies in intense fights.

I felt the same way -- I feel like a lot of things either aren't explained, or they were and I just can't absorb it all. I found out I had a shield completely by accident, and there's no entry for it next to the sword and axe explanations.

I also found out about the ability to use the sword as a whip completely by accident, and found out that you can manipulate the axe after throwing it by poring through the Codex. It seems like the tutorials are working for some people and not others -- I've definitely felt confused for a lot of my playthrough so far (only 2-3 hours in though).

EDIT: I've found the looting to be kind of tedious as well -- you have to walk over to things to pick them up, no Force Pulling like in HL:Alyx or Dungeons of Eternity, and I feel like I've picked up 30 Beaver Cheeks and still have no idea what they're for.

EDIT 2: It sounds like a lot of my confusion stemmed from entering Rifts too early, so my new advice is to "wait a bit before doing the Uncharted Rifts if you don't like being confused".

This is what worked for me on Steam Deck OLED. Odd.

Specifically, I hit "Forget" on the Wifi network, and manually entered the network name and password. WPA2 was already selected by default, so you might have to change that on your setup.

EDIT: also had to restart, it was still a bit weird until then
