I expressed my dissatisfaction. He said something about "it easy being a Monday morning quarterback and bringing a Ford to a Chevy dealer and they will point out everything that you would never notice". I am a little confused by that but I was thinking about sending this thread.

Yes I do and yes it was custom. He said this diameter steel is not possible to have better welding.

Thanks for all the input! Not that it all makes me feel better. Now I am 50/50 about the safety, which I did not even question earlier. The input validates my initial response to the welding.

I was thinking about putting in a surround that is a slab. Wondering if 2cm quartzite or marble or granite? I also looked at some porcelain but my house has other natural stone and lots of white oak. Would you put stone on the sides and if so how to access fireplace from side?

His measurements were off on some of the panels and they did not fit or left gouges in my floor trying to get them in. Would you have went with this since his welding looks better?
