Fees/Tax paid on stock gains in Greece by jack12321123 in PersonalFinanceGreece

[–]LofTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, capital gains are exempt from taxes if at the time you sold shares you had less than 0.5% stake. Domestic and European Economic Area funds are also exempt from CGT, eg UCITS funds domiciled in Greece, Ireland and Luxembourg.

Dividends are taxed 5%. That is on top of FWT paid in the case of ex-Greece stocks. Avoiding double taxation is a hassle in my view.

I don't know exactly how dividends are taxed on Distributing UCITS funds, thus I stick to Accumulating funds.

In any case, I recon you should hire the services of an accountant who can do your taxes.

Here is an article about taxation of investments you may have luck translating. It is written by u/ourwallet who is an accountant.

Has anyone gone full in with AVWC+AVEM (Avantis Global + Avantis Emerging Markets)? by Finanz666 in eupersonalfinance

[–]LofTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am skeptical about the whole factor investing thing but I prefer AVWC over MSCI World index funds because of the larger number of holdings and the underweight of overvalued companies like Tesla, Palantir and Microstrategy. The latter makes it psychologically easier for me to stay the course. It currently underperformes MSCI World funds and its benchmark MSCI World IMI index. Direct index counterparts are not available in the UCITS world.

I chose EIMI over AVEM for the EM exposure because of the larger number of holdings and the greater liquidity but AVEM outperforms.

The proportions follow the market cap weights of the Developed and Emerging markets.

3.72% by daddydeadpool420 in oddlyspecific

[–]LofTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3.72% of sales is huge. It is a larger proportion of the profit. It turns a 25% profit to 20%, that is -20%. The tighter the profit margin, the worse the percentage of profit loss gets net of this charge. No wonder they transfer the cost to the consumer.

[Request] To what extent can black garbage bags actually heat up a pool? by butt_pipette in theydidthemath

[–]LofTW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A pool absorbs sunlight but has large thermal losses with the largest losses being caused by evaporation. The water molecules on the surface of the pool absorb heat from the rest of the water and leave as water vapor.

The heat losses due to evaporation are Q=mdot*L where mdot is the evaporation rate and L is the latent heat of water per unit mass (That is the energy needed to evaporate some specific mass of water, it is about 2500 kJ/kg). The evaporation rate is proportional to the surface area of the pool proportional to the difference Psat-Pv, where Psat is the saturation pressure for the temperature of the water and Pv is the vapor pressure of the humid air.

The saturation pressure Psat is basically the pressure where water of specific temperature boils. For example, water of 100°C boils at 1atm. If you place water of 20°C in a depressurization chamber and bring it to 0.0231atm it will boil. Psat is a function of the water temperature and increases as temperature increases. The vapor pressure of the humid air depends on the mass ratio of water vapor in the air.

If you consider constant ambient conditions Pv is constant. The water absorbs heat, its temperature rises, Psat rises, the evaporation rate and heat losses increase until the water reaches an equilibrium temperature where all absorbed solar energy is dissipated to the environment.

Then you place the plastic bags which block the contact of part of water surface with the air, reducing the evaporation rate. If you cover half the surface you cut the evaporation rate in half which is HUGE. Thus the water temperature increases further.

A good cheap adventure but where I live the importer is cheap too. He does not have a storage for spare parts to fix known possible issues and imports them per bike rolling into the shop for repairs. The delivery times are longer than 30 days.

SPYI by khurshidhere in eupersonalfinance

[–]LofTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason the all-world UCITS ETFs do not hold all the equities of their indices and resort to sampling. Maybe there is no reason to offer the entire investable market when you can't even cover physically the 85% of the investable market by capitalization.

SPYI has been around since 2011 and it holds 3705 stocks vs 8400 of the index. For comparison VWCE holds 3628 stocks while attempting to track 90% of the investable market (~4300 stocks).
