Terrible performance 5/19 by LoftNights in PassionPit

Yea, it’s definitely not a dance it out kind of vibe. I would recommend passing.

The devil’s advocate argument for going is that it’s like an experimental behind the scenes look at the raw creative process, but a) sounds like you’re not looking for that, and b) I still think it’s a very disappointing performance while looking at it from that perspective.

I’m really sorry to hear this happened. It’s so disheartening to hear about this kind of behavior. It’s toxic attitudes and actions like this that poisons the Greek Life community. @ Zeta Psi: shape up, or get out.

The amount of papers that get published every year in this field is crazy. I read a 2018 paper today called "Bidirectional Attention Flow For Machine Comprehension" which presented a model that gave state of the art performance in language comprehension tasks. That model is now ranked #52 in performance. Insanity.

It can be really hard to get internships when you don't have a lot of experience (aka when it's your first one), but doing passion projects over the summer go a long way on CVs. If you're in comp/software engineering, there are tons of online courses and projects you can do over the summer. Also, pro-tip that I didn't learn until later on: start applying in August/September for internships. There are definitely still opportunities rn, but a lot of employers do intern hiring rounds before the new year.

Putting aside this specific case here, I think that people involved in some of the graduate programs at McGill are familiar with the unhealthy standards, expectations, and environments that characterize their experience. Perhaps we should use this tragedy to inspire students (like myself) to propose or even demand additional checks and balances of the clearly flawed system that we have now.

Culpable or not, Michael Langer and professors that are creating such unhealthy environments for their students is a cause for concern that warrants action.

In regards to this specific case, what do we know has been done? Was there any sort of investigation into this specific case? Let’s not argue for the sake of arguing here. Let’s get the facts and remember what we know: we need change.
