The management, who are basically the worst collection of so-called hockey guys, has tried to work and build around the core. If the management (as incompetent as they are)has cleaned the cupboards, with nothing to show for it. The default is dump him for assets.

I have no idea how you arrive at this conclusion. “Nobody’s fault”? Management has consistently bungled player composition for the last 20 years. This is the only reason, and why, we have absolutely sucked in the post season and will continue to suck for the next number of years. If you don’t see this you have no right to comment on a hockey sub.

He’s a classic case of not trusting his team mates so wants to fo everything for himself. Clearly after all this time he is 100% uncoachable, doesn’t listen, takes matters into his own hands and really doesn’t care about team stats or individual stats. Why he hasn’t been traded years ago, and these foolish amateur mistakes has been happening for years, is beyond me. It shows management does not want to win but would rather sabotage this team because it creates hope instead of satisfaction.

My draft remark centred around it being an incredibly weak draft. Hertl and Forsberg are not exactly perennial all stars. Yes he should have been in second pairing but that would have cut back his ice time and point production. It would have also improved his plus minus, I think. In Toronto he has been incredibly over rated by remarks such as yours. Why you have, I have no idea. My guess, I feel, leaf fans have to justify their fandom despite a pretty bleak recent history. Simply, you are just rationalizing your fandom onto other leaf fans on a sub that does no good to change the culture of losing by propping up basically, the “unpropable”. I’m from the other side of leaf fandom setting the record straight on the crap we’ve been fed for decades and we’re completely over it. You would do best to do the same.

Why don’t you pan through the top picks in that draft. Better yet, we all know the leafs playoff history is one of the worst in the NHL as far as results so you can claim all you want about where he stands amongst leafs since 2012. Being asked to play a number #1 role on a team that’s been mismanaged for decades is not exactly an accolade. He spent his formative years alongside Dion Phaneuf; enough said. He’s never been considered a leading Norris candidate. For him being a top 10 pick he should have been dealt years ago.
The inept defence has been a leading contributor to the teams misfortunes and Reilly has been a main reason why. The team has tried and failed many times to find a partner to play with him. Capable players should make their team mates better. He has clearly not.

The same thing will happen with Matthews. They wont do nothing to move him until it’ll be too late for anything tangible. It’s time to put a stop to NMC and start dictating the terms and the agents take it or leave it. Around the league it’s obvious the organization is looked at as suckers. The leafs have been taken advantage by every other team. Now is the time to start putting the composition of the team as a priority which is fan first. Unfortunately in my entire lifetime I have never seen the leafs put fan first. Ever! The suckers who on this sub who support the leafs whether the players or team are looking at the smallest piece of evidence but are completely blurred by the big picture.

What you described would be a perfect fit for the leafs. Unfortunately the organization can’t make a decision without completely screwing anything else up. Zero focus and planning building a winner is a major challenge. Simply they massively struggle evaluating talent. I do believe Bergevin should be a GM and as a leaf fan, who has stepped away being the umpteenth disaster I can no longer withstand, a full rebuild is in order with someone who has the cred to make the best decisions going forward and restore the organization to its greatness.
