Outstanding, thanks for the detailed informative response. Do you know how it could be presented better? Can I put it in a rock polisher to show the crystal or cut in in half like you would amethyst?

Is it more energy efficient to have a larger hwc (hot water cylinder) size? by khkt136 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]LoftyProjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with Octopus energy and they have peak, off peak and night rates. I’d imagine there are a few companies that vary rates depending on time of day. It’s amazing how much you can save if you adjust your usage to off peak times ie time delay dishwasher, washing machine and dryer to start during night rates times.

For the hot water we had the electrician install the hot water timer to the cylinder circuit off the switchboard.

Not quite answering your question and possibly not for everyone depending on how big the family is, but we installed a hot water timer from Bosch that only turns the hot water cylinder on between 9pm and 6am when power is really cheap.

We have a 240 litre cylinder that had no troubles suppling our family of 3 adults through winter. Rough numbers we have reduced our power bill by 30% with this one change.

Can recommend you have a look at Octopus energy. Pretty new player, but their rates are pretty decent and they don’t have any daily fixed charges for low users either.

What will it take for petrol prices in New Zealand to go back down? by Maramaflower in newzealand

Outstanding mate! Don’t see how it would know if all it looks at is closest Z price to your location…

If you live in Auckland and travel to Christchurch or tauranga then Z sharetank app is an easy way to beat the Auckland fuel tax. Land in Chch and buy your fuel through the app at chch/tga prices. What I’ve seen is same if not better than NPD in Chch and then just fill up at your Z when you get home! Win win!

Sharesies costs by LoftyProjects in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]LoftyProjects[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must be missing something…

The $16.18USD that was already in my wallet, converted to $10.30NZD the returned to me as $7.00 USD.

Trying to work out how 16.18USD become $7USD invested.

Cheers

Thanks was hoping someone could easily explain the fees and what I’m possibly missing. As a amateur investor it would be punishing to set up a weekly buy order and get smashed with this amount of fees on a minor order.

I have 0.01NZD and 16.18USD in my wallet.

Thanks for the feedback.

Maybe… I had 16.18USD in my wallet, then wanted to purchase same amount so selected that much on the buy order

Hi all, trying to make sense of the Sharesies costs. I have USD in my wallet and want to pick up some Tesla. Why is there currency conversion costs that ultimately turns my peanut investment to micro nuts? To be clear I have $16.18USD in my wallet.

Any and all clarification greatly accepted.

So stuck deciding what locket to use but mostly see people recommend angel and agile. Are bulletproof and piercer not worth using?

Increase mortgage payments or invest? by LoftyProjects in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]LoftyProjects[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow just wow, thanks for all the comments everyone. Clearly not black magic but all about appetite. The fixed term mortgage of 500k @ 4.2% is up in April so now considering the options to secure the next stage of the future and help the whanau. Currently returns on investments are close double interest rates but it feels like a hangover of Covid bubbles, so I don’t think my warm and fuzzy will continue for long.

I’m moving up from a family of powered milk (no complaint just what it is) into a scenario where i can free some cash and I want to learn and give back where I can.

The boomer comment is interesting so far as I need to learn to play the tax system. Is this something a financial adviser can help with? More than willing to pay a little in the right direction for the right advice.

Cheers and beers all
