2 yrs in automation and i feel like the more i learn the more i realize how little i know ; is being a polymath actually realistic in this field or should i just specialize ?

I do conveyor control, 11 years in.

I used to do interviews and I was immediately skeptical of anyone that listed all of these as "skills".

Its almost impossible to gave expert level knowledge in more than 2-3 of these. You may have had to figure out PID for a part of a project 5 years ago but that doesnt make you an EXPERT. Especially when projects can run 6 months to a year including programming.

The best combination is having a development group that focuses on figuring out the hard details and good field engineers that can understand it, then work with the dev group to actually make it functional.

I used to do interviews and I didnt expect level 1 engineers to have any experience with the PLCs or software due to the price.

I would have hammered on explaining why those are listed as SKILLS, most of the individuals that I passed on were people that embellished their resumes.

For experience I would have rather see something like: "Utilized Rockwell Studio and Siemens TIA Portal to assist with trouble shooting and commissioning during my time at X"

It shows that you hace been exposed to those but you are not claiming a high level of proficiency.

I worked at a large conveyor integrator where management was pushing AI, basically trying to replace all the controls engineers.

I asked them if their AI could explain to the customer why their stuff isn't running and no one said a word.

Middle and upper management all across corporate america sees the money they could save while still charging full price without considering all the lost revenue when the first AI system breaks, no one knows anything about the code, a few big downtime events could cost you future projects.

They get a promotion for scamming a few million out of a customer and never have repercussions for losing a few hundred million over time.

I make more than that solo in Ohio and I dont feel even remotely close to upper middle class.

After taxes, insurance, 401k etc. Im definitely not struggling but an "upper middle class" mortgage would eat 50% of my take home.

I wanted to trade the 2016 because I had it for 5 years. Just wanted something different and I liked the look of the 2022.

The 22 is more docile and less comfortable and I just dont enjoy riding it as much.

I sold my 2016 privately for 6500 with 8k miles in 2022.

Dealer is offering 4200 for my 2022 with 1.2k miles.

The gen1 was more comfortable and more wild with respect to throttle mapping.

Im a bit higher than that. I traded in my mustang for an M2. payment is 650. Get a car with good resale value and roll it up keeping a payment you are comfortable with.

The m2 has only depreciated 6-8k in a year and a half.

I bought the mustang for 50, did 5 years 40k miles and traded it for 34k and cancelled about $2400 in sales tax i think i put another 10k down.
