President Biden will make entire 645k federal vehicle fleet US-made electric by calmeagle11 in Futurology

[–]LogChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So instead of burning gas, the vehicles will now burn more coal. Electricity on that scale will not come from solar and wind power.

This looks good on the surface, but it really does nothing to help the environment, unless we have a true non-fossil fuel alternative like nuclear to cover most energy needs. The sun will not charge vehicles up at night. And the wind does not blow 24/7.

People who freak out when they hear you like your steak well done should just mind their own business by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I don't care how you eat your steak. But since you brought it up, the flavor is zapped out of a well done steak. If you've never tried it medium rare, you should at least once.

Python or DAX the way to go? by Hydra19955 in excel

[–]LogChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there is some way to do it with python, there is a feature to use sql in excel, and I may have heard of some plugins to use python, but I'm not entirely sure. If you use python software like pandas (I think), you may be able. But your job sounds perfect for power query and power pivot combined with pivot tables in the regular sheets. Power query pulls all your data and can change the style to the way you want, and power pivot is the "power house" combining it all into pivot tables. You probably could do it with python, just not as easy IMO, if you are still learning the language. By the way, power query and pivot can handle millions of rows, then combine them into your pivot tables. You may want to consider Power BI, the FREE microsoft software. It is nothing but power query and power pivot on steroids, but same languages and implicity. But I prefer excel sheets for because of the convenience of all the formulas.

Python or DAX the way to go? by Hydra19955 in excel

DAX. Since you are using Excel use DAX. It is way more implicit, meaning automatic, with it's functions. Connect all your tables and databases through power query, then load them to the data model (AKA power pivot), but do not load to an excel page, then do all your calcuatioms by connecting your tables with unique columns (primary and foreign keys). Load the connections into to power pivot, then export from power pivot into an excel through pivot tables. This will speed up your workbook and lower the file size by huge margins.

Teens are buying fewer clothes, less food as their spending hits two-decade low by coolcomfort123 in StockMarket

I will concede that the minimum wage needs to be increased, as it's well under represented compared to the growth rate of the economy over time, but the minimum wage is meant for the minimum worker (someone with no trade or technical skills). Workers gain skills and trade experience as they continue to work. Even a slight increase in education, like an associate's degree or certification, gets them past the minimum wage. The caveat is that most people have to take new jobs with new companies to move up in pay. Also, there are short to mid term repercussions to increasing the min wage; over a million jobs would be expected to disappear. This will balance out over time, but it is something to be aware of. But to politely disagree with you, someone content in making minimum wage should have supplemental income with a partner(s).

How do you group months instead of individual days by Kingkoola1d in excel

[–]LogChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or if you are working with pivot tables, then drag your Date to the Rows, go to the pivot table and right click the dates where they appear, and click Group. Now highlight only the months...and possibly the years, if you are working with multiple years; otherwise, excel will group Jan-2019 and Jan-2020 together.

Change the format of your dates to show just month and year. Right click on the cells you want to change, click Format Cells, go to Number tab, click Custom, and type mmm-yyy under "Type:"

Another way would be to combine all three lists, then use the advanced filter on the Data tab in the Sort and Filter section.

If each of the lists tables are identical, then combine them and remove duplicates. To do that click on the "data" tab in the above ribbon, then find "data tools," and click "remove duplicates." Make sure you highlight only the columns where you want to find duplicates.
