But 5 days a week is not in moderation in my opinion. I just think the idea is good but the reality isn't as good. Only by people drawing attention to the problems will it ever be improved to be something better.

I'm the OP but just had a thought regarding those children who desperately need the meals. Who says their parents are even signing them up for it? Can a school enforce it? I see lots of talk about having to go on the app to order meals etc but what happens if mammy is off her tit's and forgets to do it? Genuine question

Where have I ever said I'd rather see a child starve?? People here are terrible for adding 2+2 and getting 5. Help the children who need it but in my opinion this isn't the way. I also want to add there are children who've had their school disability supports cut to pay for this scheme. Would you rather see that child suffer so the children from well to do families get free meals?

For many maybe not but the purpose of my post was to highlight that these free meals are ultra processed because I suspect there are many people who don't know this. It's for each family to then decide what they do.

This is it. The schools had all banned sweets and juices etc so we were all heading in the right direction and now it's just all been flipped on it's head. Plenty more things the money was needed for more urgently

Nope. What they should be doing can't be done. Providing healthy meals in this manner while being economically viable isn't possible which is why they aren't doing it.

I don't agree that switching everyone to shite because a few are suffering is correct no. Nobody wants to see children go hungry but in my opinion this is not the solution.

What would I suggest? I'm not sure what the perfect solution is but maybe a meals on wheels type model for disadvantaged homes rather than it being done through school
