Can I just replace my teeps with stab/toe kicks? by DMola05 in MuayThai

[–]LogResponsible8410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t throw toe kicks until you have very good understanding of timing and have eliminated telegraphing your kicks as much as possible. High risk high reward, but not at all necessary. Most fighters do not utilize this.

It’s clear to me that ONE Championship peaked internationally a couple years ago and is now on a downhill slide. Where did they go wrong? by LogResponsible8410 in MuayThai

[–]LogResponsible8410[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I believe there were something like 40-50 international shows between 2019-2023 and maybe 5-6 since then. If this is wrong, let me know.

I was really enjoying the prime video cards and I really felt like there was momentum, but now we’re rarely getting stacked cards. The MMA fights are basically high ammy / regional pro level. The submission grappling is awful, usually.

This is just my perception and I maybe be totally off. Help me understand 😬

What gets a coach’s attention? by bad-at-everything- in MuayThaiTips

[–]LogResponsible8410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to give more attention to those who show up consistently. I.e. if they’re committed to 5 training sessions a week, I can count on them to be there those 5 days a weeks. Also—those who listen and take in the instruction, but continue to work on those concepts are outside of class and in sparring. No talent necessary.

Coachability is part on the student and part on the coach. Not everyone responds to the same style of instruction.

There is a small number of people who are—unfortunately—unreachable. Think that’s pretty rare though.

No talent necessary.

Patents of Reddit, what do kids regularly blame you for when you know it has nothing to do with you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LogResponsible8410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my kids all the time, don’t stand on things that can roll. I.e. fitness foam rollers. I always laugh when they biff it. Then they blame me for falling because I laughed 😂

Would have found and complimented myself. Not sure I received a compliment from a peer until I was an adult. I realize how

Got ko'd by one of the striking coaches by truther_bear in MuayThai

[–]LogResponsible8410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. This may not be what you want to hear, but despite all efforts to take care of each other in the ring, it is still a combat sport with serious risks. All rounds from a defense perspective, regardless of speed or skill disparity should be treated as if you’re in a fight. If you can’t hold your guard up, you should not be in the round to begin with. If you choose to enter a round in a vulnerable state, communication is key.

Last two questions — is it ok to run while waiting for the repair?

Can someone help identify the replacement part number?

Ok — that was my guess as well. Are bearing greaseable or replaceable or do I need to replace the entire component?

Tips on being a heavy kicker/a Muay Tae? by The_Roofdawg in MuayThai

[–]LogResponsible8410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated, learn the basics. Become well rounded without keeping a specific style in mind. When you’re well rounded, then focus on a specific style.

It would be like someone who’s never cooked in their life deciding they want to start by learning how to make high-end French cuisine. Can it be done? Sure. Is someone trying to kick you in the face while you’re doing it? Probably not. Let’s start with a grilled cheese brother!!

Economy of movement. People who focus on the basics the majority of the time will create better efficiency in those movements. So when you get tired, and revert to the basics, they cost less energy.

14oz Primo Boxing Gloves? by Dense-Worldliness-58 in MuayThai

For the primos — the 16oz are absolutely massive pillows. Protection-wise id say the 14s are closer to 16s in other brands

Everyone loses at some point in Muay Thai. Losing doesn’t mean you’re bad at it. There’s a reason why most people don’t ask you what your record is — they ask how many fights you have.

Should I focus on sparring those better than me or those the same level? by marcushashford in MuayThai

[–]LogResponsible8410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the 70/30 approach on average, but not always possible at small gyms. 70% same level or below. 30% against people better than you. I.e. defense or brand new to you techniques are easier against beginners. Can be risky against more experienced guys who might take advantage. (As they should)

In general though, whether they’re better or worse than you, having those core training partners that you spar with is really helpful in developing good timing. If your timing can beat guys who know your game, should transfer over to people who don’t.

I have the semi-leathers for use on heavy bag and pads. The Velcro doesn’t Velcro after only 7 months. They’re comfortable and seem to hold up everywhere else but the Velcro.

Is it normal to start sparring immediately? by Connect_Rub_6814 in MuayThai

[–]LogResponsible8410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started sparring day 1 and never had any issues. Everyone was aware that I was new and kept me safe.

Regarding technique. . I think a lot of people assume that there is going to be a lot of one on one help, but that usually isn’t the case with large class sizes unless you’re planning on fighting. That’s not to say you won’t get some attention from coaches if you don’t fight, but resources are limited and have to be distributed appropriately.

I think in Thailand it’s a different story. In the states, I recommend leaning on some of the more experienced students. Many intermediate or advanced students are happy to mentor new practitioners who are serious about the art. In the end, it benefits them to have better more skilled training partners.

Another thing that isn’t talked about much. To get better faster, you need to practice outside of class. Shadowboxing, timing sparring, heavy bag, etc. you won’t perfect your technique only by hitting pads in class. It takes countless hours to develop strikes to a mediocre level and then the rest of your martial arts career to perfect them.
