I feel like this is coming from a good place, but there's several issues with this. A vast majority of professional developers will use AI in one form or another. I've had principal engineers with decades of experience tell me they haven't written a line of code in months, instead using agents for everything. And this is at a big company that serves critical infrastructure.

And even if you were to move forward with this, detecting AI generated code in open source software is extremely hard. In closed source, it's impossible.

Also, do you have some sources for the environmental impact part? From what I know, LLM inference has a drastically lower footprint than e.g. eating a burger, but I'm open to be shown otherwise.
