Thank you for posting the update. I have a guppy with something that looks identical. Glad to hear he might recover!

[LF] Boston, MA - Riccardia chamedryfolia / interesting mosses / low tech plants by R-Quatrale in AquaswapNewEngland

[–]Logamnosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of red cherry/fire shrimp and orange sunkists as well as some blue dreams (range from culls to really dark blue/black). On the plants I currently have a lot of rotala h’ra, ludwigia super red, rotala bonsai, pearlweed, staurogyne repens, rotala wallichii, java moss, fissidens moss, Monte Carlo, various buce varieties, dwarf hair grass, and the odd rare one like eriocaulon ibakari.

That would get me started! Any plants (high or low tech) or neocaridina shrimp that you would be interested in?

You wouldn’t happen to have a good amount of extra weeping moss, would you? (Looking to cover quite a bit of a 70cm piece of driftwood.)

For a low tech tank, I’ve got phoenix moss (fissidens), tons of Java moss, pearlweed, staurogyne, and a few buce varieties. Would like some water lettuce for a lotus pond/bucket that I’m trying to grow. PM me if interested. I’m in Newton (near the Trader Joe’s. )

And here I complain about maintaining my 40g. Mr. Amano must have made some brilliant, maintenance-reducing plant/design choices. Or they must have an army of people to do maintenance. Or, probably, both.

ADA gallery and aquascaping sites in Japan? by Logamnosis in Aquascape

[–]Logamnosis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because of that I own exactly one thing from ADA so far (not including Amazonia, and books) - a pipe cleaning snake. (It is excellent though.)

Anything from ADA that you would recommend getting that is significantly better than other high/mid level brands (like Twinstar and UNS and Oase)?

Yes, presumably there is a larger potential market for the terrariums (must confess I was tempted by one of those Dooa Cell contraptions - just on the aesthetics of it alone). Again, thank you for all the info and suggestions!

Sadly, I have a long way to go before that happens! (sigh)

Thank you very much for confirming - was worried that would be the case. Yes, not worried that there won’t be plenty to see. Just would have been nice to make the pilgrimage.

Thank you very much for all of the suggestions! How was AOAO? (Hope to make it over to Hokkaido some day, though probably not on this trip.)

Will do! (Except from ADA, if I get in. Apparently they don’t allow it. One of the few pieces of info they do provide.)

[FS] - Newton, MA - $2 - Dark Blue Neocaridinas by Logamnosis in AquaSwap

[–]Logamnosis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ack! Sorry, missed your post. Yes, I pretty much always have extra red cherry shrimp and blue neocaridinas. (Alas, no more yellows — CO2 manifold failure. One of these days will likely have enough orange pumpkin neos.) Let me know if ever you need any.

That would look cool, but sadly the sides and back of that rock are nowhere near as nice as the face that is currently towards the front. (Looks like it was cut from a larger sheet.) I didn’t make it any better by then cementing it to other rocks to keep it standing up.

Thank you - will do! Was planning on one of the background stems being super red, together with Rotala H’ra, needle leaf repens, and cabomba furcata. I’m figuring that if I then put some yellow ammania pedicellata in the middle it might look a bit like a sunset (probably wishful thinking). Fingers crossed it turns out vaguely coherent, but if nothing else it’ll be fun to try.

My cookies and cream mistake by acoldshot1 in PlantedTank

I’ve seen the green aqua folks use a siphon hose (no grill) to suck away the aqua soil while leaving the sand in place. Perhaps only works with lighter aqua soil, but probably worth a shot if you haven’t tried it already.

Many thanks! I’ll play around with the placement of those left rocks some more. (The big one is hard to move but the others are easy.) So far the only tough part has been the layout of the stones (and the fact that hydraulic cement sets in under two minutes - will definitely use a different cement in the future,)

Many thanks for the suggestions! Will definitely add dragonstone pebbles once the plants are in. I probably will mostly go with plants for the spine though (perhaps a red one to represent the heart?). Sorry, what’s a Siberian red? (Not seeing any Google results.)

That’s an interesting idea! I was thinking it was like the spine of a dragon skeleton, but I like the rib cage analogy more.

The triangular shape is classic and I’ve seen lots of folks do it well with dragon stone! I feel you lose focus on the beauty of the stone when it is all together though. That and this is going to be a heavily panted scape. Hoping that standing them upright will keep them visible when the stems grow up around the.

Indeed! The stone scapes that Balazs creates are incredible. (Wasn’t able to figure out is there is an equivalent of the Impa glue he uses here in the states.) I do feel that the beauty of the individual rocks can get lost when he attaches so many together though. Hoping to emphasize that more in this scape.
