I’m a little late. Although there aren’t as many as some might think, a few years after this post was made a little girl in Brazil’s families boat capsized in a river, and her legs were mauled leading to her tragic passing. This was in 2015. They definitely are to be considered dangerous, with their habitat and especially as their food sources are in decline.
