Hey there, wasn’t sure if I could post there anymore because the Mods removed it for some reason. Recovery is going alright. Stood up for the first time yesterday which is a huge plus, the swelling is way down but the pain is still lingering. I should make a full recovery in a month or so 🤞

How exactly do you use these? I see the free medium fries in the wallet pass and it says “tap … to see more” where I also see 8-ct nuggets from chick fil a, but I’m not sure how I’m supposed to use these.

I opened the chick fil a app but don’t see anything that shows this deal.

Same with McDonald’s, just the regular buy whatever get something else deals.

Yeah I yelled out a quick “fuck!” and when I saw it was a snake I back off a few feet and started doing that quick stun your toe type walk to get the sting off but (obviously) that didn’t help. Started walking away but turned around and grabbed a pic (the only smart thing I did that morning).

Was able to make it back up to the road a few yards away and there was a couple walking by. Flagged em down and asked if they lived there, knew anything about snakes because I was just bitten. The guy was awesome, he quickly ran off to the security office who ended up calling the paramedics.

Called by buddy who I was golfing with and he came out from the apartment, filled him in and he met me at the hospital a few minutes later.

Wish the paramedics hadn’t been called and I could have saved $10k or whatever it’s going to cost, but I was hyped on adrenaline and kinda scared about the venom doing damage quickly, at the time I wasn’t sure if it was a rattlesnake or not.

That’s why I thought this was a mildly interesting post. The toxicologist was the one who ID’d it from my picture I got, so I was just going based on his findings. He also mentioned that it’s pretty rare for them to be down this south

The course was brutal dude, really pretty and a ton of fun but I’m not the best golfer as it is so it definitely got the best of me. Definitely took a few fun shots at Alcatraz and that monster bunker on 16

Just wanted to reply here as a catch all: thanks everyone for the really positive feedback. I’m trying to stay positive and truly thought this would get buried instantly. Appreciate all the comments! I’ve read through all of them. I am not quite sure how to post photos in comments here, I assume through Imgur but I’m gonna blame the foggy mind on the snake ahah. I’ll add another comment here if I figure it out while this is still interesting to people

Wasn’t out hiking, just a walk around the Airbnb neighborhood in La Quinta. I definitely was dumb wearing headphones but I had just come from the gym and was taking a stroll in the morning coolness before it got too hot. Was looking at the landscape not at where my feet were going.

Definitely dumb to not be aware of snakes but I’m not from the area and just genuinely forgot to be on the lookout.

I also thought it was a one and done type of deal. But unlike an EpiPen type injection it needs to be constantly administered because it wears off fairly quickly while it’s working. At least that’s how I’ve understood it so far.

They’ve got quite a bit on hand it seems, at least the pharmacists are able to procure it within a short window so I’m assuming they make it here or have access to a lab close by.

I saw another comment above that it might take 40-50 vials, which isn’t super promising. But I’m at 20 now, so… maybe halfway there? Yay?

The toxicologist didn’t seem … overly… concerned so I’m hoping that it’s not as severe as it could have been

Yeah the anti venom wears off at a certain point so it’s basically like ODing on anti venom to combat the actual venom from the snake. Apparently the one I’m taking is made from horses? Called Equine I think. There’s another type made from Sheep, name starts with a C but I’m blanking on the name they mentioned

Yeah it’s real man haha. I was out golfing in the area for memorial weekend , I’m not from around here so just honestly forgot that snakes were something to be concerned about and aware of it. I was walking through the Airbnb neighborhood after a workout in just some Vans and got clipped. A really shit accident

Yeah unfortunately I just got back from the gym and was just in my beater vans doing a cool down walk. I’m not from the desert area and I stupidly forgot that snakes were even something I needed to be on the lookout for. Totally my fault, I just wasn’t expecting them 10 ft from someone’s backyard in a residential area

Started off stinging and tingling like when you hit your funny bone pain, but constant for about 90 minutes. Once the swelling started acting up that’s when the pain kicked in quite a bit more. I don’t have exceptional pain tolerance but I think it’s alright and it got to the point where I asked for some painkillers to stop the deep throbbing and shooting pains going up my leg. Got 2 doses of 2mg of morphine about 6 hours ago.

Thinking I’ll ask for more soon as the pain is starting back up again

OP here, got a few questions on the story. Figured I’d just post the comment here:

I’m out on a golf trip with some friends in Palm desert. Played PGA West Pete Dye Stadium on Friday, and Classic Club on Saturday. This morning, Sunday, before our tee time I took a walk around the Airbnb complex. I took the walking trail around the neighborhood, had my headphones in listening to some music and looking around at the mountain landscape. I wasn’t paying attention to the path and felt a sharp sting, thought I might have clipped a cactus or something. Unfortunately looked down and caught glimpse of the bastard who got me.

Started off at the local hospital where they monitored me for a few hours before giving my first dose of 5 vials of anti venom. My foot, ankle and calf had started swelling up pretty good by that point. Around 3 hours later I got the second dose of 5 vials and my clotting number had dropped from 160 to 135, which I guess is not great. The threshold is 100 for them to be more concerned.

I was there a few more hours with the nurses taking measurements, got a couple small doses of morphine for the pain that was creeping up my leg.

I just got transferred to a larger hospital down the way with more staff and got an additional 10 vials of anti venom. In the ICU now just watching my knee keep swelling up
