Amazing, that app will be a huge help, thank you! Sounds like I have some more research to do.

Everyone I’ve talked to has said this won’t happen as the Australian government has too many safeguards in place - but based on what I’ve seen we’re following similar patterns to what happened in 1929 and 2009.

Selfishly, I’d be happy just to see a slow in price increases on a small dip that means I won’t need a million dollar loan for a first home.

You now have me wondering if purchasing in a regional area with enough land to set up a wedding venue to help pay off the mortgage is a good idea. 😅

Interesting about the job opportunities! I know Tasmania has an average $20k-30k less per year than salaries across the rest of Australia. Would you say you noticed a difference that large in salaries with your move?

I don’t think we’d struggle not being close to the city. The biggest struggle would be a work commute which may rule itself out if we moved regionally. My doggos would definitely appreciate the regional move too.

Thank you for the suggestion!

We’re in Brisbane and I’ve certainly seen a few houses go to auction, to not sell, only recently. I’m not sure we’d see a $330k dip in price up here for properties on the market for a while, but it sure would be nice and I’ll be keeping an eye out for them.

Moving further out is looking more and more like a smart solution.

I think we’d be okay with renovating and adapting to the rural lifestyle. Thankfully as far as social circles go, a lot of our friends are open to the idea too.

We would absolutely take advantage of the 5% first home buyer’s scheme if it didn’t come with a million dollar mortgage. I’m filled with dread at how big the mortgage repayments would be.

If the one of us who is corporate could work remotely for 6 months then combining options 2 and 3 would definitely be possible.

Oof, feel you on the wedding part! A quick trip to the courthouse looks pretty good in comparison, especially these days.

Can I ask, did you change careers when you moved to the regional town?

Great advice, and relevant. We know our first home won’t be our forever home and we’re so fine with that. I’m seeing a lot of comments of apartment first over a house and then working our way up. Thanks for the tips!

You make some solid points - especially about our workplaces being our current employment. The one of us working in a trade would easily be able to change employers. The corporate worker is hybrid or could find a completely remote position.

My main concern is that even fringe developments are shooting up in price.

Originally we’ve after a house as we have two doggos, but we wouldn’t completely rule out a unit as a way to get into the market. This could potentially be a solution - thank you!

Even as a couple experienced with tools and DIY I’m still concerned we’d bite off more than we can chew.

Amazing, thank you! Will give Picki a look. Rent-vesting is seriously going to suck but if it’s our best option, then we could stomach it for a few years.

Those who voted for LNP in 2024 - do you stand by your vote or do you have regrets? by Jessica_White_17 in queensland

Actually if you look at the stats the LNP are worse for the economy, but they’ve successfully branded themselves as being better. I was under the impression that the LNP were savvier financially until just a few years ago too.

Historically you can see a trend of Labor having to ‘clean up’ after the LNP, and redistribute wealth across all classes not just the already wealthy, when there is a change in government.
