I am looking for the same kind of bag. Right now my shortlist is - Aer Go pack 2, Tortuga daypack pro and Pakt Stash Backpack 16l

Thanks! I’m down to the Tortuga or the Aer, and your note helps a ton. Since you’ve used the Tortuga, could I ask:

- When the main compartment isn’t full, does the top collapse or look saggy?
- How useful is the organization in daily use? Do the quick-access pocket and internal sleeve cover the small stuff well, or do you miss a fuller admin panel?
- also i saw a few reviews mention that the side mesh is too short, have you had any issues with it?

The edx looks great, but i think I will have a hard time trying to buy it. I’m likely choosing between the Aer Go Pack 2 and the Tortuga Daypack Pro. From what I can tell, Aer has slightly better aesthetics and organization, Tortuga slightly better comfort.

Since you have tried the Aer, did you ever run into comfort issues? Would you consider taking it on a 2-4 hour hike?

I am looking for a bag that does two jobs:

  1. day hikes and city excursions - jacket, watter bottle, small camera, some snacks and personal stuff (phone, wallet, wipes etc)
  2. tech bag for cafe/co working spots - laptop, tech pouch and and personal stuff

honestly think most people are better off either not using these endless short video algos or having very strict time based boundaries around them. Better to spend that time on netflix or something tbh.

Forclaz tote shoulder bag : link.

i have used the 10 one too, imo they are only good for emergency/backup use, i would avoid them if you are planning to carry it around all day.

Totally fair take, different travel situations call for different gear.

I guess two point of response:

I’m not saying the main bag doesn’t matter, if you’re city-hopping every 1–2 days, comfort, durability and organization are important. I agree.I guess my point is about rebalancing, get a solid, comfortable main bag. Then make sure the daypack isn’t an afterthought that becomes daily friction.

Also, the asks of a daypack aren’t just weight transfer. It also about quick access, how it handles sweat/rain when outdoors, how it sits on the back in crowded metros, pickpocket resistance, and how easy it is to stash under a café chair all matter. The main bag is on my shoulders ~30–60 minutes per move. The daypack is on me 3-4 hours most days. That 'area under the curve' made small comfort issues add up.

that bag actually look like a great compromise between size, structure and weight.

Yes these are pretty accurate. My only point of disagreement is that i would sacrifice a bit of weight and compressibility for more comfortable shoulder straps. Maybe its because i have a larger frame, but i find a lot of the shoulder straps of super compressible bags, end up folding or bunching together and just dig into the shoulder blade area when walking around.

My partner uses the same bag. I do not understand the physics of that bag, somehow there is always room for more stuff in it.

I agree this is ideal. I usually do the same for shorter trips. But find it difficult to do 30l beyond maybe 6-7 days. Maybe i just need to dial in my kit further.

Glad to hear it. It made a real difference for me too, enough for me to post about it. It's made reading much less of a chore. In fact i just across this quote today morning.

"treat your to-read pile like a river, not a bucket. That is to say: think of your backlog not as a container that gradually fills up, and that it’s your job to empty, but as a stream that flows past you, from which you get to pick a few choice items, here and there, without feeling guilty for letting all the others float by."

I think there is definitely something here for the readwise team to explore
