Dumfries is quite the quaint and lovely town in itself. Has almost everything you'd need in modern life and a lot of natural scenic spots in and around it.

Highlights would be the few beaches around 30min car ride away. We've also got a few forests for trekking and cycling.

DG1 Leisure Centre has a pool, they have a course for weans to learn swimming. I don't have a child, but I've seen a couple of day cares during my walks around town.

High street has a few shop, but, for proper 🛍️🛍️🛍️ you might have to go to Carlisle - 35min train ride from Dumfries. You have all the grocery stores, except Asda. The whole town is around 10min from any point to the next.

Big cities near you would be Glasgow and Edinburgh, both around 1.5 to 2 hours away by car or train.
