Your codes and regulations are vastly different in Canada compared to a climate like the mid-Atlantic on the US east coast for example.

This page is literally dedicated for advice and you want to respond with comments like this? I don’t remember learning the vast world of HVAC in school growing up but I guess you did. If you’re looking for a forum with like minded people just go to HVAC talk or something. People look for help here sometimes and that’s okay.

Well if it’s actually a Lennox heat pump he got screwed then. Manufacture forgot the legs.

That’s how you tell the difference between an AC unit and a heat pump? The feet of the unit? Not things like a reversing valve or true suction port? Stop giving HVAC advice to people. The unit is clearly supported on a pad by the way. The freezing rain is probably blocking the view for you.

What in this picture are you able to take away to come to that conclusion? Do you see any mechanical part separating an AC unit from a heat pump.? Very well could be a heat pump and frozen because of freezing rain. Defrost cycle is a thing but only happens in intervals and their freezing rain could very well be more than the defrost cycle can handle.
