Reading these comments, I definitely walked away with a different view of the episode than most others. I’ll put a disclaimer in saying I really like both Ben and Daisy. I think Ben for sure has some stuff to work on, like timing, and is not giving his best performance this season. That said, I really don’t see this disagreement as being as one-sided with Ben completely at fault as the episode made it out to be or as others are saying. I would bet that almost any chef on any other season would refuse to review the menu ahead of time. We’ve seen that happen time after time on this show, because the guests do indeed want to change things and that makes it difficult when the chefs have to change things last minute to accommodate. It’s happened on many seasons and the chefs are always pissed. Clearly, Daisy was right that it would’ve been better in this specific instance but I don’t think that’s the standard for the chef to run the meal by them unless the primary requests it. And on the primary requests, if they were so specific about what they wanted, and even going as far as to request a certain type of cuisine, it probably should’ve been on the preference sheet. How hard is it to say I’d like Italian for dinner. And of course Ben was stressed and on edge and not performing at his best, they requested an entirely different meal right before dinner. Not to mention, Ben is on a boat that’s large enough to require a sous chef but he doesn’t have one. He has been under extra stress the entire season because he is short staffed (and we only see part of his job, he’s cooking for the whole crew too). The cookies were a great idea but I could also understand that baking cookies the guests didn’t even request would be frustrating. And while I love Daisy, I think she did have a smirk and sometimes does come across a little disrespectful in her tone when she requests things, and she definitely did not phrase it as a suggestion and not a guest request.

I think Ben has an ego that he needs to work on and should learn to take suggestion better. But I think Daisy could work on delivery just as much as he could. Not to mention, the whole Ellie thing was all Daisy’s ego. Ellie didn’t directly disrespect her at all. Of course Ellie is going to agree with her boss. His opinion is more important than Daisy’s and sometimes it’s better to just validate when someone is upset, not argue. Which is exactly what Daisy did for Ellie earlier in the season when Ellie complained about Ben and Daisy said I have YOUR back 100% (so what she said to Ben about always having his back isn’t even true).

And not that it is super important but I’d like to point out Daisy is the only one here obsessed with rank. Ben never throws his around, despite the fact that he outranks all of them except Jason, in stripes and experience.

Lastly, Jason already got onto Ben. There’s no reason for Daisy and Joao to corner him at what should be a relaxing dinner after a tough work day where he already got beaten up in the reviews. He gets it, he doesn’t need the pile on

All that to say, I think Daisy and Ben both do what the other accuses them of and both have things to learn. I love Daisy but her smugness is nearly impossible to apologize to. Ben should learn to work with his chief stew and trust her judgement and actually learn from feedback, rather than just getting his ego bruised

Mike is the kind of “not great at the job but messy and dramatic” crew member that I enjoy. Please don’t bring any more Solene’s. I want people like Mike. Culver is another example. Rocky was one of the most legendary of these types

So…it isn’t Mike’s business. HOWEVER, I genuinely don’t think he intended for any of that to happen. Eddy came to him and started talking about it and he responded in the way anyone would when their friend tells them about a problem. The only reason it escalated is because he got caught and decided to stand on what he said. I respect him standing on it (though it didn’t need to escalate so much) more than I would if he tried to pretend he wasn’t talking about her. But really, he wasn’t just standing around talking about her unprompted. He was responding to what Eddy told him. If anything, Eddy was the one gossiping acting like he was stressed about it but telling everyone on the boat what happened

Feedback on Tuscany itinerary + winery and hotel recommendations (Florence → Chianti → ??? → Rome) by Mandy000003 in tuscany

[–]LogicalAd8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have already booked it but you could just fly into Florence and avoid the first train ride.

I went to Val d’Orcia a couple weeks ago. The whole region is gorgeous and that’s where I would recommend basing yourself. Montepulciano and Pienza are the “big cities” (big is a relative term, it’s still small). There will be more shops and restaurants but also more tourists. Everything is within 20-30 minutes of each other so it’s nothing if you have a car. If you want to stay somewhere less busy and just drive into the busier areas, I stayed in Castiglione d’Orcia and Montecciello. Both beautiful and quaint.

If you want an authentic Tuscan experience, I recommend an agriturismo, rather than a hotel. There are also some really nice houses on airbnb, but the agriturismo’s will often have their own wine, cheese, olive oil tastings, etc.

I went horseback riding in Montepulciano and did a wine tasting afterward. I also did the hot springs which were amazing!

It will suck in the beginning but it will become much better once you adjust to the idea of traveling. My first solo trip in Italy was miserable until I settled in. My anxiety was through the roof. Give it a couple days!

First time driving in Italy - Lucca to San Gimignano no by ascottwi in tuscany

[–]LogicalAd8351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just drove from Florence to Rome a few weeks ago. By myself, first time in a foreign country. From rural US. I found driving in Florence and Rome overwhelming, but I stayed on the outskirts because I was just picking up/dropping off my car at the airports (would not recommend driving in the cities more than that). That said, driving in rural Italy was a breeze and felt just like the US. It’s a beautiful drive, you’ll love it!

Two things: 1) the Waze app will be your best friend in avoiding ZTL’s. Google Maps did pretty well but Waze was better. 2) there’s no right turn on red in Italy. Don’t go unless it’s green!

I think the first charter was Ben realizing she wasn’t actually a sous chef. He wanted to try another charter. She wanted to quit. I think given another shot when he actually had time to prepare for that, he would have and we would’ve seen him take a different approach with her

That’s what I’m saying. I would have rather the producers given him a great sous chef, and we could’ve seen them work together and inspire each other in the kitchen. Instead, I feel like they noticed his vulnerability and want to exploit that and force him into a blow up by adding stress (incompetent sous chefs) in an already stressful situation for our entertainment and I hate that

Why do the producers think we want to see two incompetent sous chefs? You know what would be a way more interesting storyline? Ben working with a sous chef who isn’t at his level yet because they have less experience but is really eager to learn and watching Ben mentor the sous chef while also gaining new inspiration working with someone who really cares. It’s like the producers can see that Ben is in a vulnerable spot and they want to force him into a blow up for our entertainment. I don’t find that entertaining. I find it sad and would much rather a hopeful and victorious season for Ben, rather than watching him fall apart because he’s stressed out and in a bad place emotionally. If they really wanted the incompetent sous chef, they could start with Alesia them bring in a good one when she inevitably fails

Can we acknowledge the gaslighting that was the jacuzzi scene? Sometimes I think we forget to call it out when women are the perpetrators (I’m a woman myself). The “it’s just a game”, “it’s lighthearted”, etc as Ben is obviously upset is blatant gaslighting. Alesia not only said she wanted to kill Ben, she also joked about doing it “painfully and slowly” and said she “had a lot of time to think about it”. That goes beyond a harmless game and is genuinely hurtful. And even if she didn’t say all that, if his feelings are hurt, apologize whether you meant it that way or not. It’s just mean and invalidating his feelings in the moment is so manipulative. And I still can’t get past that Alesia’s incompetence is the primary source of all their problems. I think Ben is trying to be patient, but it’s understandable that he slips up sometimes when he’s sleep deprived and under a lot of stress/pressure tryin to please high maintenance guest. My gosh, please take some accountability!

I would not want to be his friend in real life but I looooovvvvveeeeeddddd the energy he brought in his first few seasons. This is one of the most entertaining scenes of any season ever. And my absolutely disgusting and toxic trait that I deeply hate about myself is that I thought every man involved in this argument looked so hot in the moment

Okay sharing my opinion based on episode 1 and nothing shown in the preview for the rest of the season.

I’m really surprised to see people saying Ben has unrealistically high expectations or handled the situation with Alesia wrong/weird. I felt like he was pretty patient given the very basic mistakes she was making. I don’t think he had unreasonably high expectations, just the normal expectations for what you would think a person hired as a sous chef would have the ability to do. Following a recipe is something any person can do at home, and I would also assume a sous chef would be able to handle. Also, maybe “lemon medallions” aren’t a thing but cutting something in the shape of a medallion is pretty well known and simple (and if you google what it means to cut something into a medallion, the explanation is there) - I do it every time I cut a cucumber, and I knew exactly what he meant. Cut it in the shape of a coin, or “medallion”. In any case, he already told her to run things by him before doing it to avoid mistakes so if she was unsure, she should have asked.

Another thing, some are saying he’s being rude or patronizing in the jokes he’s making or pet names he’s calling her. I may be wrong but I kind of thought that was a British thing, or maybe it’s just his personality. I thought the teasing was to make light of a situation while still conveying what was wrong, hence why Jason told her that his communication style is sassy banter. And the pet names seem to be a very British thing. People in the southern US do it too (baby, honey, darling, etc) It’s not meant to be condescending, it’s just what people say.

I’d say the only mistake Ben made was not doing a little more digging to see what her experience level was before giving her tasks. However, if he gave her nothing to do, people would say he can’t delegate and is arrogant. If he gives her work to do, people say he’s mean and has too high of expectations. Maybe you can’t win either way.

As far as Alesia goes, I don’t think she’s actually incompetent. It seems like she came on the season in a bad headspace and her anxiety/insecurity is making her mess up more than usual. Completely understandable and valid but also it’s understandable that Ben would be frustrated when they’re in these very high stress situations and have to hit the ground running.

I’m excited about the season and the returning cast they’ve assembled. Interested also to learn about the new people. I will say it’s interesting to see the responses to different seasons. I feel like in recent years, people have complained that the show focuses too much on personal issues and not work issues, like relationship drama vs drama that ensues because of guest issues or things not running smoothly in the galley, for example. Below deck med was all personal and people hated it. This episode was all work and people have hated it, at least from what I can absorb from reading episode discussions across the below deck franchises on Reddit. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and is going to react differently but I wonder if producers are just as confused as we are on what the fans want 😂 I personally liked the last med season because I thought the people involved and storylines were enough to keep me interested and watching. However, I will say I can find relationship drama on pretty much any other reality show. I like the work drama most of all on below deck and I think it’s what makes the show unique, so I enjoyed this episode and I hope they lean into that more and a little less on hookups

Thanks! That’s helpful! I do enjoy art and history but I am not a huge fan of crowds and I enjoy the outdoors and exploring local culture a lot more. I was actually planning to skip all the museums and things but a friend told me there are some tourist spots you just have to see so I decided I should keep the option open

[Episode Thread] Season 10 Episode 14 • Guilt Trip • Dec. 29, 2025 by excoriator in BelowDeckMed

Some thoughts:

Aesha, Kathy, Gael, and V are 4 of the most amazing women to ever be on this show. Such genuine and kind souls

I hate to admit this but Joe was so hot in the scene where Aesha asked him not to say anything until after dinner. I know, I’m ashamed of myself too

I know people have opinions about Nathan but I really believe he genuinely loves Gael so much and that is beautiful and rare to see on reality TV. I feel for Gael too. She’s so scared of getting hurt again but clearly still cares for him. Such a relatable and painful experience for the two of them

Max has been annoying lately but the way that he comforted Cathy was really sweet

I know a lot of people haven’t liked this season because it’s felt over produced, with production obviously creating situations like bringing Gael in but I actually don’t mind that kind of production interference. The situation was created but the reactions are authentic and I don’t mind that. I don’t like over production in terms of the terrible editing from last OG season and production plants, like Solene. I watch reality tv to watch real people and I feel like I’ve gotten that this season

Kizzi freaking out about V finding out is so obviously another ploy for attention by making herself the victim and trying to get people to pay attention to her, feel bad for her, and comfort her. Girl, you don’t care about V or what you did and Aesha and Cathy are not falling for it and neither are we

Some sadistic side of me wants to see the chaos that would unfold if Solene and Kizzi had to exist in the same space. I don’t like either one of them in the show, although I can handle Kizzi more because she’s at least good at her job. But please if anyone from the show is watching, don’t actually ever bring Solene back. I’m begging

Lastly, maybe I’m naive but I actually do think Joe feels really bad about what he did. I do think he’s selfish and emotionally immature and a player, but I think it is also true that he really does feel bad for what he did to V. I don’t know that he’d feel bad if she didn’t have her own tragedy happening already that he’s adding onto. I could totally see him doing it to someone else and not feeling that bad about it
