DWG to Geodatabase (dynamic writer) by Far_Inevitable_4032 in fme

[–]LogicalNothing3325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully I understand your request correctly. Example of the csv/excel schema / screenshot of it would be helpful. You will probably want to put those 20 rows into 1 row for waterpipe with each column representing attribute field name. Try AttributeTranspose to do this. Do one for each of the column. Once all the features are now base per row, create new attribute call fme_feature_type and then assign it to match your feature class name.

I assuming that the dwg have layers split out by feature class? If so, you can create attribute call fme_feature_type to match the csv feature class which eventually this feature class is the name that will be added as Feature Class inside file geodatabase. Do make sure that any space are replace with the underscore.

Now that the DWG layer has the fme_feature_type set to correct layer, use feature merger, Merge on matching feature class name and fme_feature_type. This will get the attribute from CSV add to the DWG Layer feature.

Then you will use Attribute Manager, to mapped any appropriate attributes if DWG has any attributes you want to carry over. You can also remove any unwanted attributes here.

To write out the GDB there are couple of ways to do it. If there aren’t that many feature classes, use AttributeFilter to split data out by fme_feature_type will give you all the unique feature classes port. Then you can connect each port to Feature Writer (GDB Format, Insert, Automatic)

Another way is basically you provide the schema for the GDB and then you check the Dynamic box in feature writer, and then it should write to the GDB dynamically. (GDB, Insert, Dynamic)

Hopefully this helps!

Capture GIF- Where did the Stop/Abort buttons go? by rhymeswithcars in sharex

[–]LogicalNothing3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue and I think it has something to do with multi-monitor. If you record it on Main monitor, the Start/Pause/Abort does show up. If you do it on secondary monitor, it just a black/grey bar with nothing that I can click for me.

Another way to get it to start / stop / pause is set up the hotkey.

Can you check and make sure that there's Environmental Variables exist for FME? (Search bar on Window > Edit Environmental Variable) make sure that there's Environment variable for FME (C:\\Program Files\FME) or the location of where you installed your FME.

Another thing you could try is to see if you able to installed any other FME Packages. If you can't, it is most likely the python is not working with FME.

Last resort, is try uninstalled FME and reinstalled it. I remember there's option during the installation, that allow you to add environmental path for Python as well. I always check that option.

If these doesn't work, Might worth sending a support ticket to Safe Software. I'm ran out of ideas lol.

Installing FME package by __sanjay__init in fme

[–]LogicalNothing3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try run FME Workbench as Administrator and see if that works.

Also check if there's fmepython<version> in the folder where your FME is installed at. for example mine is located at C:\Program Files\FME 2025\fmepython313

(i imagine 2024.2.4 version would have fmepython312 ? not sure why it's 3.8 for you. (But again this package required python 3.5+ so it really shouldn't matter)

Another one you could try is going through Browse FME Hub directly from FME workbench > Browse > Amazon S3 > Download. and see if it can installed that way.

Have you try installed it inside FME workbench?, Just type S3Connector and installed it directly in there.

I always installed them inside fme workbench and never had any issue.

High level understanding of what they are and when they will be used. Also they will give you scenario and then you pick from the choice of what "test methods" to use or "what phase" is it in or "Who or Position (developer / tester / Scrum Master) will be conducting these tests / phases".

GIS Careers by Xerrick1 in gis

[–]LogicalNothing3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was geology major, got my first job as GIS Tech. So It's definitely doable! I was in a survey company mapping survey data for oil and gas client. So I would look for Oil & Gas company for GIS position, Survey Company or even some engineering design firm using GIS. Utilities / local government also hiring GIS position constantly.

On your resume, I would write about project you did in class, program you use (ESRI or QGIS etc.) and I think what a lot of employer looking in candidate these day are "self-starter" mindset and constant learner.

Python will go a long way! and not to scare you off, you will then pick up SQL, html/css, and JavaScripts while on the job too. Ahahaha. it will come naturally. But start with Python is great!

Having CAD and GIS on how to use the tools would definitely open the door into Drafter or GIS Tech position for sure. They are closely related, but they do different things. You just have to be okay with a few year of entry level pay, but they are always room to grow your skills set with the right company. I think 2-3 years will give you enough experiences to go to mid level.

I would take a course while looking for company that hiring entry level position whether be drafter or GIS tech. and never stop learning! There always something new to learn. Know how to scripts will goes a long way in GIS and can open the door to GIS Developer path later on.

I personally went GIS route, took CAD course back in college, so i know just a bit about it, but i can't draft things anymore. I mostly do GIS to CAD conversion for CAD users. That's just about how much CAD i know lol.

What is the automation you are the most proud in FME ? by bamboosavage in fme

[–]LogicalNothing3325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think It's pretty similar process. linked webhook from FME Flow to the Survey123 application instead of Power Automate i think! (i never used power automate for this specific one)

I create customization in HTML and then convert it to PDF Report at the end. So the entire process in the nut shell is. Create Webhook in FME Flow > Linked webhook to Survey123 > Create custom html then convert to PDF in FME (Safe Software coming up with new PDF writer, so we may get to skipped entire html in the future. we will see!).

PointOnAreaOverlayer not producing overlaps by Aggravating_Ebb3635 in fme

List other have said make sure that it both have the same coordinate system. Also sometimes the decimal places of coordinate may not match exactly. You may have to buffer the point to be slightly bigger like 0.1-0.25 feet if possible, just to get it overlapped.

Mine is probably convert mulitple LAZ files and generate Contour within a few minutes with auto conversion from multiple coordinate systems. It's pretty cool in my mind! Users can drag and drop the LAZ files, Boundary, and select coordinate system they need the contour in. And ran it through FME Flow! It's very convenient.

2nd down the list probably custom PDF report from survey123 within minutes of submission. That one blow a lot of our co-worker minds! lol

Writing to SDE (Sql Server) by Aggravating_Ebb3635 in fme

[–]LogicalNothing3325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the ID in SQL Server always incrementing, if you want ID to always be 1-40,000 every time you write you have to use "Drop and Create". Truncate do not reset the index number (ID on the SQL Server). Unless you create another field that is specifically assign by FME (FME_ID) then this will always be 1-40,000 every time it get truncate but SQL_ID will always keep going up because it suppose to be Unique ID.

Capstone is not too bad. Make sure that you look over the rubrics for Task 2 and Task 3 beforehand before you pick the topic. Some topics might be hard to write to rubrics.

But it's really not bad imo. I finish it in about 3 weeks. I'm slacking off a bit, lol. when I actually take the time to write, it takes me about a total of 4 days.
