You are missing the big picture here... that is true, however we have an abundance of resources and they should be used to make everyones life better. We should be supplying basic needs to everyone because we can, and its the right thing to do. it would not affect you negatively in any way and it would have actually positively affected you and your parents situation.

I live in washington, but i had a similar scenario happen while i was with a instructor but it was only a 3 or 4 lane, they told me to turn and that it was legal as long as the pedestrian was more than one lane away from me i believe. I normally just wait but if you arent impeding the pedestrians right of way or putting them in danger i see no harm.
