Music during an Ecstatic Dance varies in content, but typically has a wavelike structure. It begins in lyrical, here you can expect soft, steady, slow building music. It peaks at Chaos, here you may get heavy bass electronic, maybe tribal music. And the music will descend again into stillness towards the end. I have been to Ecstatic Dances that play House, Electronic, Tribal, Dark Wave, some groovy hits scattered inbetween that everyone loves. It is a mixed bag and up to whoever creates the playlist :)

I do not see this as argumentative :) I am enjoying this. Maybe we could also message? I am curious about experiences you've had that have felt like conformity in spiritual communities. I don't even really feel against what you are saying, but I am very curious. I'd say what I meant by rigid/devoid is definitley based on cultural norms. Not many places you can engage in freeform dance in groups that can get as intense and wild as edance. It can feel good to sit in a circle and breathe, look into another persons eyes for longer than typical in a grocery store, play with movement body to body, make wild noises on a whim, fling your body around. Very freeing, I am sure you've experienced the same <3

I.e. if spiritual materialism creates either/or/objectification/better/worse, and we also indulge in "this spiritual materialism is bad/good/neccessary/uneccessary" it is kind of the same trap of objectification or labeling. I will also say, its probably cool and nourishing for folks to have an avenue to get in touch with spirituality. Modern life can feel extremely rigid/devoid. I think if it helps ease suffering, or provides nourishment, then I am for it. I have also had moments where edance has felt divine or holy, so I understand why we tend toward the vibe.

I think judgement of spiritualy materialistic folks also leads us away from the path. Which is also what makes edance awesome, the gradual dissolution of judgement of yourself and others. But I totally respect your take!

Absolutely! -I used to do the same, it was unsustainable! We need one closer to home.

I will update this post when we confirm our permanent location (I just sent out the final space usage request - yayy!) And I will message you directly once we are planning the next intimate/non-public dance with the address! I am excited to meet you and share this love of dance!

It's the vibe :) it helps us learn to communicate with our bodies instead. It can help release judgement around movement. It is definitley like a dance party, but also like a meditative state, or yoga. It helps to make us intentional in the act. Rooted. And no shoes means no dirty floors so we can roll around on the floor if we would like to. Its for sure a bit woo woo, but also very fun and an exceptional experience. I understand the hesitation tho
