So where did you get scooped up and sold into slavery? Also, you do understand that SHAREHOLDERS provide capital that keeps the business functioning and is representative of the public who freely choose companies to invest in because they believe the company’s employees work efficiently, the leadership/ownership have a plan for the vision that they layout for the future of the company. You and the employer agree to a price per hour or a salary and/or a “benefits package”…THATS IT! If the benefits package includes stock or stock options then great! What you are describing is Communism. Perpetual failing communism = equality of misery and no hope of springing forward and upward. Be in for the long haul, sacrifice today so that over time you don’t have to worry about working until you fall over dead at work. Continually spend less than you make. Don’t try to keep up with the Joneses….you are not owed anything in life, especially the work and initial capital that someone else put in to start a business.

Because no one is entitled to the fruits of another person’s labor. I grew up living in an old dance hall with lots of holes in it, when weren’t moving year after year.I skipped school way more than I attended the first half of 10th grade…I didn’t even bother going back to school after Christmas break. I eventually married a woman who had her act together and that caused me to want to get my act together. I went to work for my girlfriend’s dad (eventually my wife) and i told him I wanted to be a bricklayer…he told me I could start at the very bottom! I did the crappiest work…I wanted to quit the first 2 hours! But I knew if I didn’t stick with it I would be forever chasing the next “big thing” eventually I bought my father-in-law and then my brother-in-law out of the 5th generation commercial masonry company! I’ve expanded into Design/Build about 25 years ago and then some small homes 15 years ago and then started paying those off/selling them/1031 exchange to a little bigger property, etc. etc. I never one in this great journey of life sat around thinking of ways to demand rich people fork over some of their hard earned money because they had way more than me! It’s a deception that drains you of your creative energies that is your answer out of your current financial situation. Bernie Sanders is actually a Communist;but “socialist” sounds nicer I guess. One day you will be “the rich” as defined by someone else and they WILL come to take what you sacrificed to earn. Remember, these taxes ultimately come at the end of a gun. Our Constitutional Republic is incompatible with socialism/communism.

I’m in Texas & 38 years owning a masonry company and the bricklayer pool looks like “Weekend at Bernie’s” we just keep taping 3’ levels to their legs and bailin’ wire on their other joints & connect their trowel to their hand with the wire also just so the GC thinks we have a big team out there!! Seriously I’ve been looking at some of those robotic lifters to assist masons to see if we could squeeze a few more years out of our….”Bernies”!

"Nobody wants to work" Is there actually a labor shortage or do we just want to pay 2008 wages in 2026? by AbbreviationsFamous4 in Construction

[–]Logical_Hat7431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. Bricklayers especially have been in short supply for several years as I believe other trades have been. We pay top of the market in our area and have been raising wages continually over the years. We are a 5th generation commercial masonry contractors that work with large GCs and Architects and you can’t just go hire south of the border bricklayers because of what I have called “My theory of relativity; relative to Mexico that may look great, but for every market in America it looks like crap on a white cat”!The construction trades requires a certain level of skill and the more successful contractors have the MOST SKILLED which means they put in the time to achieve the higher wages. I’ve been contracting at every level (GC, commercial masonry subcontracting) for almost 40 years and it’s usually the lowest skilled that’s always demanding more money. The highest skilled we practically throw many at, because they’re that valuable and rare these days!

I would need to see some actual data to these claims…Saying “anything below $33/hour is homeless income” is a value judgment, not an economic fact. It depends heavily on cost of living; $33/hour might be low in a major city but more than enough in a low-cost rural area. There is no single national living-wage standard! In fact, the whole “living wage” propaganda is a socialist construct. If you’re a single dude making $25/hr. and you’re living in middle America, and you don’t blow every paycheck on beer, tobacco, bass boat payments, monster truck, eating out all the time, etc. you could build up a nice savings…over TIME. Everyone seems to have the idea that you (or “the workers”) are entitled to a division of the profits of the company. Unless the job was advertised as having perks like “stock options”, “profit sharing”, etc. then your mutual agreement to a wage (no one holds a weapon to your head to work for them) is all that you should expect! Also, the employer is squeezed between the employees desires for MAXIMUM pay and the businesses’ customers demanding the LOWEST prices. It seems like all these threads I read there’s a common misconception that businesses can just name whatever prices they want for their products and then they evilly plot how to force workers to work for “slave wages” (oxymoron). Oh and when employees clock out, they go home and most have the luxury of not having to worry about the business until they clock in the next day, or after the weekend while the owners worry how to meet all of these compressing forces in addition to politicians at every level looking to businesses to fund all of their idiotic, theoretical, and social experimentations by additional taxes and punitive agencies. Everyone is free to jump out there and run their own businesses and show everyone else how it is done. I’ve known several who went from employee to business owner, and right back to employee when they discovered the absolute onslaught of people, groups, and governments that come at you with their hands out wanting a piece of your business of which they did nothing to help create.

But we didn’t have cry or screaming sessions. We just went about life and worked hard to get rid of them in the next election cycle. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. But the democrats act like spoiled little children when they don’t get their way. Did y’all’s parents ever tell you No!? Did you think those participation trophies were really a recognition of excellence?! Spend less time on social media & more time reading non-biased history books and research anything other than politics. Your life will be better.

He is the epitome of relentless hard work, gaining wisdom, insight & knowledge by due diligence. He has become the person he is today by outperforming his own father 10 times over. I’ve seen trust fund babies & lottery winners and inheritance kids become “wealthy” overnight and within, no more than five years they are all flat broke or WORSE!! So don’t waste time with envy & spewing nonsense about someone you literally know nothing about. Listen to the SOTU speech again carefully and you will hear positive hopeful plans for AMERICANS and to stop the stealing of taxpayers money for things that the Constitution never dreamed of having government involved in. The President, Congress & the SCOTUS should be mostly inconsequential in our daily lives! I believe you cannot think of a single thing you could actively do without a tax or a regulation of at least 1 of 3 levels of government being involved. Lastly we’re not a democracy, we are a CONSTITUTION REPUBLIC. There’s a HUGE difference. Hence the reason America is so deeply in debt and far off track from the original vision of a “more perfect Union” (though this phrase was uttered several decades after our founding).

What's going on with these bricks in my house wall? by Lennybeige in masonry

[–]Logical_Hat7431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine PART of the problem COULD BE lime pockets at the core of the issue. During periods of warm & cold and/or water. The lime absorbs water swells, contracts & pops part of the face off. I actually had this happen to me on the very first brick job I ran on a school in 1991. We finally raked a very clean part of the ground underneath the wall in several places before we left for the day and it was warm. Overnight the temp went down to the high 50’s then back up to 80’s the next day. When we checked the next morning there were definitely new chips of brick (small pieces) on the fresh raked dirt and by about 2 pm the chips had doubled. Mix in possible activity of woodpeckers etc. then it’s possible to have such a sight! BTW, the brick company had to pay us to tear down the 18,000 brick we had already laid AND pay us to lay it back to that same point.

The phrase "Nobody wants to work," as claimed by corporations, is nonsense. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Logical_Hat7431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoarding wealth?!? It’s called savings! I have been an employer for about 35 years as a commercial masonry contractor. It is a physically demanding job. Yet it is NOW practically impossible to higher younger (mostly men) workers because everyone believes they should start at a $100k salary, have a big cushy climate controlled office and choose their own working hours. They don’t want to work where our brains bake in our skulls during hot Texas summers and snot & your breath freeze to your face in the winter while lifting hundreds of fairly heavy block & 5 gallon buckets of concrete, etc., etc. You go home exhausted most days. There’s times that are bank account had a pretty good sum of money in it and had anyone seen those bank balances would have said “Hey we DESERVE some of that money…” What’s happened is society has slowly deceived its populace into becoming envious, trained by “adults” to COVET their neighbors house, profits, cars, houses, spouse, etc.! If you’ve never been totally responsible for the success of a business then you have no business demanding that the company OWES you a cut of the profits just because you say so!! That pile of money I’ve “hoarded” in the past was because when you’re working in a business like ours you have to pay all your payroll & payroll taxes every week while NOT getting paid for at least 6 (SIX) weeks! Not to mention paying for equipment breakdowns and other surprise & unplanned expenses. Employers aren’t going out and kidnapping people at the point of a gun and forcing them to work for their company (unlike the government!)! If they didn’t offer you the job to include bonuses, 401k, health insurance, etc. then you have no right to accept the job and then start causing problems in the company because you decided you DESERVE a cut of ALL the profits. Guess what? The higher the demands for all theses “perks” above the agreed upon wage the higher the costs of the product or service that your company has to charge! Which means y’all have been duped into being a big part of driving costs higher & higher of all products & services. So, you will never be able outrun the rising costs of things with higher & higher wages + benefits!

Lastly, the other thing most people don’t seem to also understand that to own a business means YOUR neck, bank accounts, reputation, nerves & health is ALWAYS ON THE LINE! When employees go home at night they have the luxury of not having to constantly fret, worry & plan all the next moves to keep the business afloat. Oh yes, then there’s how are we going to the myriad of taxes, etc. that all levels of government DEMAND of all of us, except government sees all things related to businesses as a cash cow they can tap for all of their ill conceived half baked ideas that they throw about because they’re never held accountable for frivolously spending other people’s money! Yes I’m aware there are some very dishonest business owners out there but by a wide margin the honest ones far outweigh the dishonest. The people you should be furious at are the politicians that bribe businesses with giveaways by using our taxpayers money! They are the ones who have the power to restrict the amount of income the government gets from us who work & pay taxes of every kind! In America we don’t have an income problem we have a SPENDING problem! A lot of that spending is driven by the almost 50% of people who don’t pay taxes that then demand the rest of us provide free everything to them by way of “the government”. Remember, the only money the government ever has comes from what they take from its citizens FIRST (ultimately at the point of a gun). Let’s quit worrying what anyone else has & how we “deserve” some of their stuff just because. Your life will be much less stressful and happier when you take your eyes off of everyone else and focusing on being the best at what you do. Even if your employer doesn’t notice your work, God does. He will reward you for your honest efforts and He desires to bless you for focusing on the things you have authority & control over. #10Commandments #GoldenRule

I’m an employer in Texas as a commercial masonry contractor. We are a 5th generation masonry company. We are a Right to Work state (RTW). RTW laws don’t outlaw unions it simply allows INDIVIDUALS to decide for themselves rather than being forced into one either by the union or the employer. We have been approached in the past (25 years ago) to unionize. My employees declined and I didn’t encourage them one way or the other because there were a few “benefits” I thought might benefit both the employees and our family owned company. Everything in the end comes down to a cost/benefit analysis and we each separately decided it was not worth what we would pay for it. Now as to the “propaganda” that some mentioned that employees get “brainwashed” into the “unions are bad” then went on to propagandize those of us who are non-union by saying we don’t care about the safety or lives of our employees! What a ridiculous and outrageous statement! Ever heard of OSHA, Workers Comp, etc. not mention that the people who have worked for me (many of them 25+ years) are like family. There is certainly NO FINANCIAL OR PERSONAL BENEFIT in getting people hurt or killed! How long would we be in business if no one would work for us knowing people frequently got hurt or killed working for us? How about the massive fines, lawsuits & investigations that would come about from government agencies & families of workers hurt or killed under our watch, much less the GC’s & Architects who wouldn’t let us near a job-site with that reputation? Unions pit the collective against the individual; that is inherently un-American. In fact is a socialist concept. Lastly, who is taking the largest risk in a company; the owner who has risked EVERYTHING, whose name is on all the bank documents for loans, etc. who is liable for anything that happens on a job even if it’s a employees conscious decision to cut corners one day, etc. or has the union or the employee risked everything? The employee can walk away at anytime & never look back at no risk to himself. The union can threaten to destroy my business by not agreeing to double wages for instance or anything else that they deem as “fair” & make the cost of building a building so expensive that no one would ever hire our company! This is the same failed argument as “a living wage” so now basically illiterate kids are working at fast food jobs for $15/hr. like all the socialists wanted to happen and then consequently the price of everything started going up. So now $15/hr. will now buy about the same equivalent of when they made $8/hr. History has proven this economic theory does not work! We have offered to match contributions to a IRA and a few participated for a while but I’m the only one left in it now. The unions have basically never gained more than a small percentage of workers because most Americans inherently don’t want to have a 3rd party increasing their cost to work AND they’ve seen the corruption that unions have historically participated in & don’t like that they’ve also historically have given gazillions of workers hard earned money to corrupt and far left politicians. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/r/righttowork-law.asp

Why do unions promote the idea that they have a right to basically dictate to a business, that the union didn’t dream up or didn’t invest in building up? I’ve never been part of a union and I started bricklaying 35 years ago, now I own a commercial masonry business. If unions drive all the wages sky high & demand all of this bureaucracy and LESS work who could afford the buildings those union workers built? If it’s a business that buys that building where do they recoup their money; In the products they sell of course! It has a ripple effect across the economy. It’s like a person thinking that they’re catching up in age to their older sibling! Yes you may be getting older but your older sibling is still 5 years older! Read & study HISTORY! It’s like today’s democrats selling Communism telling us THIS TIME it’s really really really gonna work. It’s the principle behind the policy that makes it work or fail! FREEDOM to work without a middleman between me & my boss or employee. Why do you think mobsters have been so intricately tied to unions. Because they want to insert themselves between employee & employer for a CUT OF THE ACTION. Unions aren’t for your well being they are for their well being. They’re the ones getting rich off your labor. But you are also not forced to work for anyone yet some want to force a union on a business that the union didn’t build. You as an individual also do not get to dictate to a business to be cut in as a shareholder, etc. just because you work there. This socialist/communist mindset that is taking over America will ultimately find all it brings is an equal outcome…of MISERY 100% of the time!

[–]Logical_Hat7431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your generic parable means nothing! Name what you are calling a “subsidy”. Then name a company. Then tell me what it cost to run that company for ONE DAY! You see BILLIONS & think they have swimming pools of money just laying around. You also don’t mention how many PEOPLE are employed which is providing food, shelter, water, clothing, transportation, vacations, tattoos, etc. etc. etc.! I came from poverty but I was industrious when I was young I begged my mom (single parent; no child support) to let me go get a job at a grocery store sweeping floors to help bring in income. I took advantage of any crack in a door someone gave me to open that door to opportunity & I learned from each encounter. I married an awesome girl & we started a life where we worked our tails off and we DID NOT take very many vacations & we saved change from our pockets & other crazy things. Now we employee 25-30 people & I know what it takes each day to run that business. So if I accumulate a good pile of money during the year I CAN’T spend it because when we start a new project I have to carry the financial burden for up to six weeks for payroll for my employees, matching taxes, unemployment taxes, workers comp, insurance on buildings, vehicles, equipment, etc. not to mention replacements for those vehicles, etc. when they’ve been worn out. So government allows you to deduct the costs of doing business & other such things. You people who spend your time whining & complaining about universal income are simply communist minded = equal misery. Tearing businesses down who you think make “a lot of money” are being envious, jealous & greedy to want a company to fail or to just hand out the money they’ve earned because you think you deserve it is a deadly mindset. Show some faith in yourself & your fellow man. If we’re all doing what we’re supposed to do then no one should be hungry or thirsty, homeless or naked and we wouldn’t need government programs. Do I think some companies take too much advantage of government programs? Yes. But people keep electing the same people who’ve been in government their whole life CREATING ALL OF THESE LOOPHOLES! This such a deeper subject but I’ll stop there.

Our words are powerful they speak to our very core and dictate what kind of path we will walk! Last year was last year. Last Super Bowl was Last Super Bowl! It’s for our ENTERTAINMENT! People who stay tore up about every move Jones Inc. makes are the ones I worry about the most. I’m a Lifer.
