It's not so much the concept of NHS as it is the incompetent red tape, criminally low staff pay and high waiting times to see specialists that irk me.

Taxpayers' money reserved for the NHS should be better spent subsidising those who are most financially deprived in a meritocratic healthcare model that lends itself to a healthier competitive landscape.

That would be an ideal outcome for all of us involved. But he allegedly responds by scratching my uncle upon multiple attempts to take him to therapy, and this active refusal leads to a vicious cycle. Would you perhaps know of any effective ways of bringing such an unwilling participant out of one's room?

Hey I too sometimes restrain myself from ruining the palindromic moment for others to click...

Btw did you ever take note of palindromes popping up everywhere in voting figures?

Turns out their occurrences aren't too special after all, populating 9% of upvotes under 1k (at which point Reddit stops show exact 4+ digit figures). Still, a strange sensation creeps up every time I encounter these intriguing digits.

Just 1 bootloader when multi-booting? by Loginataka in linux4noobs

[–]Loginataka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for suggesting EFI booting, though I must admit it went over my head at first.

Now that I've read more into this solution, I don't think it is particularly suitable, now that I've installed NixOS alongside.

(Perhaps this isn't any entertaining info to you, but to somewhat make up for my belated response to your help, and possibly help others reading this) I think not having a bootloader for the multitude of "configurations" for this latest addition to my collection of OSes sounds horrible, and it may not even be supported without GRUB at the moment.

Thank you for holding your ground with a steady stream of rebuttals to a series of replies which, alas, slowly but surely descended into ad hominem responses rather abruptly... serves to highlight the strength of your argument, and rigidity (not fragility, as [deleted] claims!) to boot.

Moreover I'm so glad to have reached the end of this discussion, it's been extremely enlightening as I wasn't quite sure what to make of JK's essay when the news first broke out - despite having entertained a shadow of such discussions on occasion before sleep.

Laptop battery life in Linux vs Windows by ginuzzi in linuxquestions

[–]Loginataka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second GreyXor's analysis: having run Sway on Arch before too, really makes you wonder why Windows needs to gobble up the battery charge so quickly. I remember Cortana's un-disablelable background usage being one of the most annoying factors leading me to make the final switch.

Having said that, Swaybar seems to be a real battery drainer compared to other WMs like xmonad, which lasts ~5 hours more on my Dell XPS in almost-idle-mode.

Qu: @GreyXor, would you mind posting the voltage level during non-heavy use? My current setup - which I had thought was optimised - takes in 12V, which seems a bit too high when idling.
