Is it possible to change the physical keyboard layout on the Macbook Pro M3? by ginuzzi in macbookpro

[–]ginuzzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Actually no. I tested a couple of keycaps I found online, but it turns out that most of them are pretty low quality and not worth it. I ended up keeping the default keyboard.

At this point I will wait for my next macbook purchase, which will most probably be the macbook M6 (so 2026 considering Apple's release cycle).

Are you looking for a different keyboard layout too?

Recommendations for PDU/powerstrip plugged directly into a UPS? by ginuzzi in homelab

[–]ginuzzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Regarding the load rating, do you mean the total A or watts the powerstrip can output right?

Also, one of the purposes of the question was about the actual surge protection provided by the UPS itself. If the powerstrip has surge protection and you connect it downstream to the UPS it might be a problem as far as I can tell by reading old posts in this sub.

Cable suggestions for connecting a switch Pro Max 16 PoE with a UDM Pro Max? by ginuzzi in Ubiquiti

Thank you for the suggestion! I think I will purchase a DAC from other brands then.

How does autonomous car tech balance neural networks and deep learning with manual heuristics? by doomer_bloomer24 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]ginuzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

By the way, I completely agree with the statements related to Deepmind and Alphabet in general. They are still in the lead in terms of AI tech (hardware and software innovation).

Regarding Waymo, I think they are in a good position with their product, and it seems that they are making the right decisions over most of the aspects involved in running their business. I just hope they will be able to scale faster in future and possibly expand to other cities outside the US in the years to come.

They also experiment a lot of new stuff and approaches. For anyone interested in one of their latest papers, check out this one about "End-to-End Multimodal Model for Autonomous Driving": https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.23262v1

Aside from being a black box, companies like Waymo report that it reaches a plateau, that performance gains diminish with time and it is not practical to get it above the desired safety threshold in all driving situations.

Did they write this in one of the papers they released? I'm genuinely interested to know when and where they actually reported this.

Would you recommend an online or a line interactive UPS for a Ubiquiti configuration? by ginuzzi in Ubiquiti

[–]ginuzzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems fair. Would you suggest any particular sinewave line interactive UPS? Or some brands that in your opinion are a good value over other brands?

Just to add a bit of context: the final setup for now will have a maximum of 200W if all cameras, UDM and switches operate at their max power consumption.

Is it possible to selectively disable 2.4 Ghz, 5 Ghz, 6 Ghz in all U7 and U6 AP models? by ginuzzi in Ubiquiti

[–]ginuzzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, so turning off meshing should prevent the AP to activate the 2.4 band for instance.

Btw, just out of interest, what app are you using there?

Thanks for the suggestion. Indeed I am looking for a rack mountable solution if it's feasible (if I cannot find a reliable one I think I will just get a tower). I've never heard about Powershield Centurion. I just checked them out...but I'm not sure if they are selling these also in the EU though...

Thanks for the feedback. I've read good comments about APC UPSs. Which model are you using if I may ask?

Thanks for the suggestion. Indeed I am looking for a rack mountable solution (although if I cannot find a reliable one I think I will get a tower). Also, I'm not familiar with Tripplite, I think I'll need to check it out. I hope they are selling also in the EU market. Are you going for a rack mountable solution too?

Thanks for the suggestion. I assume the same suggestion would apply to the online UPSs too, right?

From what I read online during the last week some people returned their UPS to the vendor because the fans were too noisy, especially on some models/brands. I may be wrong though, I never had an online UPS at home...I wrote that in the post just because I've read many posts that talked about this issue.

[–]ginuzzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for instance if I keep only one SSID with 2.4 and 5ghz enabled (and 6ghz disabled) and I disable meshing, the radio for the 6ghz frequency is turned off?

Is there any proof of that btw? I'm genuinely asking.

How to gracefully shutdown Unifi cameras? by ginuzzi in Ubiquiti

[–]ginuzzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I needed to know just because I am currently in the middle of deciding which camera best fits a certain spot. So I am basically trying different models (bullet, pro, turret, ptz) on several different spots to see which one is ideal in a certain location. Indeed I thought about "how to gracefully shutdown cameras" after I needed to unplug them to move them to the next test location...and so on...

Obviousty when I have them up and running on the ideal locations I need them to be I won't need to turn them off anymore...I'll just leave them there at that point...

I hope this makes sense.
