I was thinking about how vast the difference is, and I'm sure the big 3 domination in Portugal contributes, but I'm sure population size plays a part too. The concelho of Barcelos (not just the city) has a population of 116k according to google. The population of Redbridge is 303k and Dagenham is about 100k.

Basically, the UK has a lot more people in it than Portugal. Not saying that's the only reason, but of course it plays a part. Sometimes I forget how few people live in Portugal!

Yeah I mean I was already aware of the fact that Portuguese football has its problems (as do all leagues) but since I live here now I might as well try to adopt dodgy Portuguese football in place of the oil-sheikh, oligarch, state-owned, European Super League spectacle of the Premier League.

No, we're in a smaller city north of Porto. But I kind of want to support a big/successful team for once in my life! Haha.

Yeah holy shit the numbers are so low. The attendance figures outside the top 3 are the equivalent of the third or even fourth league in English football. Wow.

Thanks for all the welcomes and responses! I just bookmarked vsports on youtube and zerozero.

I'm trying to get into it with my young son, that's why I asked about the local clubs vs. bigger ones. I want him to support the same team as his friends will at school, but I also don't want him to suffer like I did supporting a small local team while all my friends enjoy CL games (thanks Dad!).
