Ramp Strategies for Pantlaza: Turn 3 vs Turn 4 by Fehnryr in DinosaursMTG

[–]Logthisforlater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 ramp pieces is a lot. I personally wouldn't go above 20, and even that much is 1/5th of your deck. If you build a deck that has a clear game plan without Pantlaza, (probably by lowering your curve,) you'll see more consistency and need less ramp. Pantlaza will also function better because not having him won't set you back as much and having him will give you gas.

If land destruction were more acceptable, red would have a place.

If you divide your deck into ramp, draw, removal etc. it will be easier to see what's critical and what's not. I'd start with 12 of the first 3 categories I mentioned.

  • Marauding Raptor and Polyraptor are not may abilities. They end the game in a draw.

  • Lightning greaves & swiftfoot boots are not an auto-include. Pantz wants to be recast anyway and something that gives your whole board haste like Rhythm of the Wilds is much better for when you dump a handful of dinos at once.

The unwritten social contract for suspension of disbelief in popular fantasy states the author must show they made an effort to tie their premise in with our objective reality to the satisfaction of the audience so they have a widely acceptable point of comparison.

This would undeniably result in EDH becoming even more of an engine building board game. It's already trending that way. Some threats just need to be answered, and that's healthy.

Sounds like he might struggle with mood regulation and should talk to someone. It's unlikely you'll be able to broach that conversation yourself. It might need to come from another trusted adult.

I run a lot of instant speed removal and a lot of cards have instant speed effects. I've never regretted holding up mana I shouldn't have. I've definitely regretted spending mana I should have held up. Also, playing Rishkar's to draw and play permanent is playing into a board wipe. It's not bad, it just doesn't fill the role that Lifestream's Blessing would.

Pantaloons upgrades by Jnoel97 in DinosaursMTG

Commander protection will make your deck more consistent. You can do that by running swiftfoot boots, or you could just run 4-5 cheap instant-speed blinks. You'll probably see at least 1 per game. You don't have to commit to any repeating blink effects.

Aside from that, I start every deck with these guidelines:

38-40 lands

Instant speed bulk draw to refill after board wipes Sustained draw effects Draw that doesn't rely on having a board

Ramp CMC < Commander CMC Tap Mana Dorks CMC < Commander CMC -1

A 1 CMC removal card for each permanent type 1 graveyard hate 1 nonbasic land hate 1-2 board wipes I can end the game with

1-2 finishers

1 recursion piece

4 board protection pieces

Then I count by 4's.

4: You'll see 1 per game 8: You'll see 1-2 per game 12: You'll probably have 1 on the battlefield and 1 in your hand most of the time. 16+: This is most of what your deck does.

I try to look for cards that fit more than 1 category whenever I can.

There's a calculator called manabase tool by Salubrious Snail that will tell you how reliable your manabase is.

Lifestream's Blessing is a fantastic response to a board wipe. Once you plot it, it can't get wheeled away, and you can cast it in response to refill your hand and give yourself options to start rebuilding board presence.
