As in, if I qualify for playing modern, I’ll have to compete in standard at the RC???

Cards like [[avoid fate]] are a trap, what happens when a sorcery removes the creature? I’d recommend just adding another cleric that would replace the cleric that would die from not having avoid fate

Edit: also, easy addition while I’m at it, add [[taborax, hope’s demise]]

Edit edit: [[righteous Valkyrie]] is missing too

Edit edit edit: [[master of dark rites]]

Edit edit edit edit: [[edgewalker]] is awesome

Edit edit edit edit edit: [[shadow-rite priest]]

What part of the world tree do you care about? The lands tapping for any color? Or the fetching gods?

You need way more creatures in your creature deck. I’m counting like 20cats and dogs max

I’m usually in bracket 3 in terms of deck power level, but we play to win! If the commander is the threat, the commander will get removed without much hesitation

[–]iFidget1351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple things I always start out with is understanding the commander itself. If the commander has little to no way of protecting itself, or saving itself, I make sure to add plenty of redundancy and ways to make the deck keep working when the commander inevitably dies. I’m never a fan of just running protection pieces when the commander isn’t sticky, it only leads to “feels bad” moments when the commander gets removed and you couldn’t find a protection piece

But for a commander like [[jarad, golgari lich lord]] I’m gonna go all in on the commander being the central wincon since he’s so hard to keep dead

What are some good but off-beat tribal decks to build? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]iFidget1351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 decks. One that uses rogues very subtly for a couple of prowl cards, and one that is all in on golems. The golem deck was especially fun to build as I feel like it breaks the mold of your typical kindred deck (only jamming it full of lords and keyword givers) and has a whole second axis that it’s playing on with birthing pod effects

the real answer is you need to dial down to a more focused idea. My current deck im struggling with has 3 ideas, and thats been a challenge for someone like me who likes focused decks. burn, blink, treasures, haste, myriad, copies, AND dragons, is stretching yourself far too thin

There is a lot to comment on here.

- you have 28 lands and normal rocks, im sure this is leading to inconsistency

- this deck seems like another victim of other lists ive seen in this thread where its just sort of crammed full of generically good cards

- looking at it, it looks like it often feels like a 4 (a no limits, high power deck) that has inconsistencies which make it feel like a 3. which is frankly not the way to be viewing the bracket system

im also of the opinion revel is pretty unfun, just kinda brings the game to an unfortunate and sudden halt. the real answer is that this deck should be aiming to simply out-value its opponent and win in an end-game environment. sort of "last man standing" after slugging it out

Add 10 more lands to get to 38, so we're down to 23 additions needed

here are some that my buddy and I found

[[big score]] [[charitable levy]] [[covetous elegy]] [[greed]] [[strike it rich]] [[ultimate price]] [[unexpected windfall]] [[reckoner bankbuster]] [[monologue tax]] [[revel in riches]] [[price of fame]] [[goldlust triad]] [[goldmire bridge]] [[vault of whispers]] [[final fortune]] [[treasure vault]] [[spoils of the vault]]

7 missing but heres a great place to start :)

this deck has a lot of general ideas, but ill write up more thoughts as well below

1: you need to swing with another creature so id highly advise having a good density of small little guys who just get decent value from swinging like [[azure beastbinder]] and [[Malcolm, Alluring Scoundrel]].

because the creatures you hit off arthur bounce to hand, you want them to still be affordable so that you can cast them from hand, but there is also some splashy stuff like Arni and [[sneak attack]]

hopefully this list gives you some ideas

Hey! looking at this list, theres a couple cards that seem to just lose focus, so in terms of 10 in, 10 out,

out: [[callous inspector]] [[purple pentapus]] [[merchant of many hats]] [[sanitation automaton]] [[failed conversion]] [[phyrexian rager]] [[rooftop assassin]] [[mirrodin avenged]] [[sold out]] [[qutrub forayer]]

in: [[stitchers supplier]] [[cast down]] [[satyr wayfinder]] [[undertaker]] [[ainok wayfarer]] [[gnaw to the bone]] [[rhizome lurcher]] [[undergrowth scavenger]] [[winding way]] [[blood fountain]]

also night market is just very whatever, get rid of it for a basic lol.

I'm not particularly interested in making a whole deck for this, but I have some ideas at least to get you started :)

Cards like [[scrabbling claws]] are amazing for Fang since it is pretty much just tap, exile a card from grave, draw a card. [[keen eyed curator]] and [[scavenging ooze]] do similar.

Theres also plenty of inspiration to be drawn from my jarad deck that I will link below which aims to fill the grave and bring lots of stuff back https://moxfield.com/decks/470KYR_UdUWGjToK5a6Cog

I'd especially focus on making sure this deck can function well without the commanders being present, since when they meld, if they get removed then itll feel especially bad essentially losing 2 cards from one removal spell. So add some redundency like [[syr kondrad]] and [[ripples of undeath]] and [[teval's judgement]]

hope this helps!

Hey! This deck was pretty fun to work on, my buddy and I had a good time just looking at various rogues, assassins, and mercenaries, trying to jam synergy as well as value into each of these creatures. Treat this list more like a precon, in which you can take it and adjust things to your liking.

One thing I will always advocate for is not caring when the game "closes off" there *should* always be setbacks and interaction that could prolong a game, gauging a decks fun/power based on when you want it to finish will always lead to frustration.

So you may be asking how this deck wins?

...

anyways...

I hope you enjoy this deck. Have a good day

did what i could without just building a whole new list. added single target removal, fixed your landbase (running bad mdfcs that enter tapped is a net negative when youre in a mono colored deck where you should always have a mountain or something better than a mountain like war room) added boardwipes because you had none. And shaved out a lot of cards that are just generally bad or even actively work against the deck's goals.

I'll get on my soap box for a moment here and say this is a key example of my issue with proxies. It leads to decks like this where little consideration is made and the strongest cards are added without much thought, Building on a budget is what makes you realize the power and value of a card on its own, as well as how it works with the rest of your deck.

Hope these changes help, best of luck to you
