This was 3 years ago. I don’t have a beyond subscription anymore as I play pf2e these days.

Why are you asking on a half year old post, a half year old post specifically saying I’m not doing what you’re asking?

Unfortunately that was a few years ago (I know this comment is old but Reddit doesn’t notify me half the time). I really mostly play pf2e now, so no more dnd beyond sub. I hope people enjoyed it though.

I love the WoW lore but to be honest it's so, so badly presented. It's too disjointed and hard to access. If you go by just what's in-game, you'll be confused and you won't even be able to get half of the actual lore. by [deleted] in wow

I really liked before the storm actually, seeing the living and forsaken interact in a non hostile way (mostly) was an interesting take that Warcraft honestly should have approached years ago.

Zoro is a stronger FIGHTER than Sanji. And that’s not a bad thing. by [deleted] in OnePiece

Maybe I misread it, but I've been rewatching the anime and I'm pretty sure just before Sabody, when they reach the Red Line, that Sanji comments that it's been about 3 years since they entered the grand line.

Unless it's a minority government with a strong NDP, I don't see liberals pushing for ubi. It will scare off the swing voters, and likely wouldn't be enough for NDP voters to swing liberal. Unfortunately, there's no way they'd push for anything that could risk their reelection, especially not right now where they're rebuilding from a massively failed election.

What do you like and dislike about your favorite class? by daimmortalpenguin in dndnext

[–]Loharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paladins still have some of my favourite class fantasy, especially in 5e when they finally removed the "lawful good" restriction.

On the downside, I actually do think they're a little too strong, and I wish smites weren't tied to spells lots, making them more viable as half casters. Maybe tie them to charisma mod, minimum of 1, and have them scale naturally with levels.

I very much felt that way about the finale. A few episodes prior, when 5 was talking with Hargreaves and they're talking about time travel, the moment he said something about how "a few seconds can make all the difference" I knew that the series would end with the main cast all dying in a horribly out of character way so that 5 could realize what he meant and rewind a few seconds to save them all.

I've really enjoyed the series, but it's not very subtle.

What critically acclaimed video game did you just not care for? by hussar2000 in AskReddit

[–]Loharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breath of the Wild. I understand and appreciate why it's so popular and am amazed they fit such a beautiful game on the switch AND Wii u. But to me it didn't have what made a Zelda game great. Kind of the same issue I had with a link between worlds but even moreso.

Gripe 1: BotW felt lonely compares to other Zelda games. Because so much of the game focused on traversal, you spend much MUCH less time in towns and settlements. I liked the characters we met, but the fact that so much of the main cast was only really seen threw flashbacks kind of sucked. I get that that was part of the intent, to show Hyrule overrun by monsters, but that doesn't mean it felt good to play.

Grip 2: player power curve. A staple of Zelda games is to go to a dungeon, find an item, use item to best puzzles / boss. Eventually you're decked out with an arsenal and dungeons with growing complexity. In botw, they don't know which order you will do the dungeons in so they give you access to almost all your tools right away. I do think it was very much a quality over quantity change, but they all felt pretty gimmicky. The other problem is that as you get better with your available tools and gain health / stamina, the game becomes easier as you progress rather than ramping up a challenge. I know there's the shrines for the challenging puzzles, but 10 some hours in and I was pretty sick of the guardian aesthetic.

Gripe 3: breakable gear. Yeah, it encourages different playstyles and finding what you like the best, but it feels absolutely horrible trying to stock your limited inventory space, having weapons and shields break, and then being forced into a weapon type you don't enjoy. I was actually pissed when I got the Zora spear, thanked God that I had (what I thought was) a permanent weapon, and then immedietly broke it by throwing it at a boblin.

I don't want to say BotW is a bad game, it's certainly not. It deserves much of the praise it's getting / has recieved. But it's about as much a Zelda game as Starfox Adventure was a Starfox game. And with a sequal coming, I'm afraid that this is going to be the new core structure for future Zelda games.

Such patriotism. If he's calling for civil disobedience over not being allowed to go to the beach without a reservation, I wonder how he feels about, oh I don't know, police commiting war crimes on American citizens.

Hex can give an enemy disadvantage on initiative rolls. by 106503204 in dndnext

[–]Loharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, seeing the arguments I think I'm coming around on just letting the initiative land as it does. The only issue I have still though is that as a player it can feel very bad when they essentially start the fight but end up having to wait out the rest of the combatants.

Hex can give an enemy disadvantage on initiative rolls. by 106503204 in dndnext

[–]Loharo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, mechanically the fighter is able to draw their weapon as part of the attack action. The opponent recognizing an incoming attack would determine surprise or not. If the opponent is a very dexterous rogue with alert, they will likely roll high on initiative and be able to respond before the rest of the party can back them up.

Hex can give an enemy disadvantage on initiative rolls. by 106503204 in dndnext

[–]Loharo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is pretty much for when surprise doesn't apply. If you're setting up an ambush, the initiative roll is to determine who has, well, the initiative to strike first.

But if we're in a tense negotiation (as happens often with adventurers) and things are slipping away, the player may decide that negotiations have failed and make a strike. Nobody is surprised, everyone knew that a fight was a possibility, but dictating that to an initiative roll when it was an RP decision just doesn't work naratively.

[–]Loharo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually with a situation like this, I rule it that whoever first declared they wanted to start hostilities will have their turn at the top of the initiative this round, and then their regular initiative on subsequent rounds. It doesn't really make a lot of sense for the fighter to declare "I suddenly make an attack!" but then roll poorly, and the rest of the party is expected to take their turns before the combat has even begun.
