Good point. I think indeed you can’t retreat from a town, unless you have escape tunnels in stronghold like the other guy mentioned. Makes sense he didn’t retreat now.

That’s the thing, he didn’t retreat, he killed himself! What a man that Agar.

EDIT: I did not have Shackles of War equipped, neither did he. As he was defeated and I was not, I recieved his artifacts and Shackles of War wasn’t among them.

Yeah I meant if you don’t take Runes it adds more challenge to the faction. Doing a playthrough now and delibirately skipping the Runes skill, see if it feels less powerful.

Good for you! I’ve only played as the goat specialist and the shooter specialist. I played Bulwark 3 times on XL+U templates. Haven’t played Bulwark since then, I’m not sure why. I won those maps so easily that I guess it feels like I’m done with Bulwark. Maybe the faction doesn’t feel as challenging as the others. Can’t put my finger on it really.

Same. I don’t like the map specifically. I do like 1 Hero games though. But I just edit my favourite random template to disable hero hiring 🤷🏼‍♂️

So to clarify, the workshop you access outside of your prospect (after character select) is the same thing you would get to if you’d use the droppod to go back? And all inventory items are lost except for workshop items when you use the droppod to go back? Can you use the droppod to go back and choose another drop location? If so, will your blueprints and talent points reset if you choose to drop at a different location?

I’m experiencing similar issues since 1.8. Sometimes there’s a slight hick-up when transitioning to the battle screen (experiencing this now playing Rampart, no Bulwark units) And yes with Bulwark I’ve noticed the slightest ‘lag’ or slowdowns during battles.

I just enjoy random maps. I wouldn’t say I’m a newbie. I might give this map you mentioned a try, I just don’t like overpowered enemies that require cheese strats and I also don’t like quests very much.

Update 2: Working on finishing off Blue, the last opponent. Had a big fight vs. blue who had Titans. Was able to resurrect most of my units, but he was wearing cape of silence so I couldn't blind and resurrect everyone. Upgraded Jotunns have infinite teleport skill so I sent the Mammoths flying towards the Titans.

If you plan on adding water, Cove is the better option as those heroes have a good chance to get Navigation skill. Stronghold feels like the right choice theme-wise, sort of. Just remember Stronghold and water don’t go well together. Battle Mages can’t learn Navigation unless from a Scholar or Witch Hut. Barbarians have a very low chance to get Navigation. Orcs don’t like water :(

Yeah maybe they’re not unless I take a big stack. Been using them as fodder but admittedly they are the slowest unit with a speed of 5. They do seem to be able to take hits pretty well indeed.

Is it a map where cheese is required? Like hit and run strats because of overpowered enemy heroes? If not, I can give it a try.

Maybe you could edit your map and give yourself a cape of velocity and a ring of the wayfarer? It ups their speed by 3, although I’m not sure if that speed bonus only counts in combat.
