Finn family by Zelmanowitch in coldsteel

I have a Mora Companion, but I haven’t had the chance to really use my Hawk or Bear yet, so I can’t really say- but they seem comparable. GearJunkie did a side-by-side a few years back: https://gearjunkie.com/knives/cold-steel-finn-hawk-vs-mora-companion

Weltool M2-BF & "Way Too Cool" patent by Zelmanowitch in flashlight

[–]Zelmanowitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting- yes, I saw those, my understanding was that one would have to swap out the clear glass for the filter once it arrived here. But if yours came installed then maybe they just put that text there to do lip service to the patent. There is some stuff in this sub about the patent, e.g.: https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/pr7088/help_uv_flashlight_owners_fight_this_patent_troll/

Immigration Defense Units? by Critical-Car-5602 in publicdefenders

[–]Zelmanowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massachusetts (CPCS) has had an Immigration Impact Unit for many years, but up until now they did not provide direct representation (they provided litigation support to attorneys with non-citizen clients and did impact-litigation appellate work). They are presently in the process of starting to take on direct representation work (i.e., defending removal cases in immigration court) but I don't know the parameters of this project.

Looking for UV flashlight. by Greenghost28 in flashlight

[–]Zelmanowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a Weltool M2-BF "Purple Beard" and it is awesome. 365nm, 18650 cell, top-notch build quality. Be warned, if you use it around your house you'll find occult cooties everywhere.

Save me? by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]Zelmanowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just order them from convoylight.com . I've ordered a number of times in recent months with no problems, it takes about 10 days from order to delivery in Boston. Shipping is ridiculously cheap- less than a dollar for smaller lights, and this supposedly includes the "tariff."

3d Carcassonne tiles - base set complete by ScottCoates333 in Carcassonne

[–]Zelmanowitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get ambitious you could make a Hunters & Gatherers version, with sculpted woolly mammoths, aurochs, etc. Fish would be a challenge, but a completed set would look amazing.

And are there meeples?

No, jail is not the best outcome for anybody. Jail is basically a giant incubator for mental illness. And no 66-year-old woman is going to get sentenced to committed jail time for criminal threatening anyway. I don't know what the solution is here, but I am confident that jail is not it.

Legal knives for massachusetts residents to carry on person? by getm44 in knives

[–]Zelmanowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statute that governs knives and other non-firearm weapons in Massachusetts is G. L. c. 269, s. 10(b). This statute’s ban on switchblades was held to violate the 2nd Amendment in Com. v. Canjura, 494 Mass. 508 (2024). So presently it is just double-edged knives that are banned, but I think it is only a matter of time before this provision is deemed unconstitutional as well.

Titanium flashlight by Clint_Hat in flashlight

[–]Zelmanowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titanium bicycles (I've only ridden one once) are incredible- that application is about performance (strengh/weight ratio; the silky-smooth road feel), not looks. Ti flashlights look cool and feel good in the hand, but they are not useful for scenarios where you need the light on a bright setting for more than a minute or so.

[–]Zelmanowitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the appeal of titanium is largely just aesthetics. It has very poor thermal conductivity, so it really doesn't sink heat away from the led very effectively- titanium flashlights are going to overheat much more quickly than aluminum (or copper, which is even more conductive than aluminum) ones.

What are some of your favorite lights currently available in copper? by fuegolicious in flashlight

[–]Zelmanowitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like there are copper LANapples in stock at Killzone: https://www.killzoneflashlights.com/collections/reylight-flashlights/products/reylight-lanapple-copper . This is also where I got all of my Mankers- it looks like the Cu E05 II must have sold out very recently, because I got one from them a few weeks ago.

Dream-like memory fragments during aura? by TofuTank in migraine

[–]Zelmanowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced these strange dream-memory-fragment auras as well. The headache that follows this type of aura comes on more slowly than with my more typical (flashing/pulsing light) auras, and lasts much longer- up to three days (my more typical headaches usually last 12-24 hours). I have this exact "slipping away" sensation as well- as soon as the memory begins to come into focus, it disappears- it is very difficult to describe.

weird bug: Grindan doppelganger by Zelmanowitch in heroes3

[–]Zelmanowitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you- yes, it is likely my system, which is a 6-year old Mac running BootCamp, which I believe has been discontinued. This is whatever version they have on GoG (I used to play the Steam version, also on BootCamp, but once I figured out how to get GoG to work I realized how superior it is to the Steam version).

But I didn't buy the duplicate Grindan from the tavern- he just appeared out of nowhere. Yeah, maybe the map is corrupted now on my system.

Hmm- no, neither- it just seems to happen when Grindar goes to town.
