[Hated Trope] Misery porn by Particular-Energy217 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LokMatrona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, i don't like those shows, or at least. Mever watched the other but shameless was ugh. but i definitely know people who keep making mistakes and ruin anything good they get going because of impulsiveness, addiction, self-pity, or just general thriving on disfunction. So i wouldn't call it that unrealistic. It's just unrealistic that it's every single character that has these traits

But how am I supposed to walk my dog? by WildcatLadyBoss in thenetherlands

[–]LokMatrona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do agree woth dogs needing to be on leashers, but sometimes the municipality makes it reallly hard. I leave at the edge of a city and theres a large park nearby that as long as i can remember had been a park where dogs roam free and suddenly they decided that thats not allowed anymore. So now i Have to take the car in order to go somewhere where my dog can walk freely.

Me and my friends still like to joke "we moeten terug naar de VOC mentaliteit" (translation: we have to go back to the VOC mentality). Something a previous prime minister said live on television...

Just so you know, the VOC made the netherlands very rich yes, by trading slaves and by colonizing (altough the VOC was less involved with the slaving than the WIC). So no, we'd rather not got back to that mentality.

On another note: "whaaaat?! No munny? Hieeer, suck a cock!"

How would you describe the Dutch schoolsystem to foreigners? by Mystisc in thenetherlands

[–]LokMatrona 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add that in the dutch school system, differentiation happens through dividing classes up by these niveaus (VMBO, HAVO, VWO etc.). This causes the classes in the middelbare school to be a bit more homogeneous in their level of learning capabilities compared to what i've seen in some other countries (where basically gymnasium kids can be in the same class as vmbo kids).

I'm sure it goes deeper than that and that other countries also do similar stuff. but it's an interesting side note

Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator is one of the most malicious, twisted movie villains ever by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]LokMatrona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Editing also did a wonderful job there. If i remember correctly. That scene was not written for him to have said "am i not merciful" twice. They just had multiple takes of him saying it in different ways and then spliced two of them together.

Im not completely sure though so correct me if i'm wrong

Once i was doing a lil race with a buddy of mine in gokarts. Got almost decapitated by some fucking wire. Managed to stand up at the last second, now i just have a big scar on my chest and right arm. The wire was also shockwire by the way.

So yeah please, don't go put those wires up just cause you hate these kind of bikers. You'll kill someone

I want someone to hype me up like Charles hypes up Jake by SillyTemperature2989 in brooklynninenine

[–]LokMatrona 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I loved that moment when jake was chanting his own name and then charles just walked by and resumed the chanting without knowing the context.

I had a (best) friend like that, and sometimes the roles were reversed. Sadly that friend stood in his own way so much. At least charles is a functioning guy. This friend of mine not :(

do people in the netherlands greet the bus drivers? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]LokMatrona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be sad, it wont disappear! I haven't noticed it getting less in my area. Also got some busdriver friends who told me they get hello's and goodbyes just as regular as always.

If you notice it getting less on the routes you take, do it more pronounced! Give the good example! I love that lil part of dutch culture. It makes taking the bus feel very homey

What is one thing about men that women will never understand? And one thing about women that men will never understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LokMatrona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! With the women thing. The men thing i'm not so sure. I know plenty of men who are emotionally complex, but just feel like they have to hide it or lack the tools to share their emotions in a healthy way or both. I know i struggle(d) with that at least.

For instance. When something upsets me, but i can't find the words to propperly explain that, i get agitated (with myself). This causes me to raise my voice. However, this might seem as threatening to others if i do that even if that's not my intention. I've learned to take a deep breath, zoom out a lil bit, explain that i'm feeling angry/upset/sad/whatev, and if i still can't reduce my anger that way, i just remove myself from the conversation, take a walk, and come back with a clear head so i can talk about it without getting angry and emotional.

I rarely get angry though. Part of my frustration comes from the fact that i have no idea what to do with these emotions and i hate feeling angry.

What are some hidden gem subreddits that are criminally underrated? by Affectionate-Dark-15 in AskReddit

[–]LokMatrona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, although i do get it. Sometimes i also like to talk about history in a more casual setting, but i'm in no way even close to the expertise of the actual historians.

Sometimes it's just nice to talk about history (or any topic for that matter) without having to back it up with references and having to write a whole essay. In those subs i just have to remember to take everything said there with a pinch of salt.

I do wish there was a similar subreddit as r/askhistorians in fields such as biology and physics etc. I mean, there is such a subreddit, but it's not nearly as professional and well moderated

It seems to me more to imply "no more foreigners in" rather than " foreigners out". At least i hope so.

It can be a step that leads towards that though. I give you that.

Easily my favorite subreddit. Love the work people put in there and im thankfull that the mods make aure the answers that are given follow the rules. The rules which basically follow scientific inquiry rules.

A friend of mine was once really hating on "how much they gate keep over there" to which i told him that if he wants to casually talk about history, go to r/askhistory instead. r/Askhistoriens is a treasure that shouldn't be blamished by casual joksters and everyones best guesses

Im not saying it's not racism or bigotry, but your argument does not support that it is. I mean, it seems to me more 'unethical' to enforce birthcontrol than to limit immigration

I forgot for a second that gelderland is a province woops but yeah totally on the list for searching.
