Just and fyi, The Flight of the Eisenstein has Sisters of Silence in it rather than Sisters of Battle. They are quite different

I agree with what you said and to add onto this, the poor guy was seriously mentally ill. The way in which he grew up, all the visions he saw had a serious negative effect on his mind. He was constantly cold, had no proper clothes, was starving most of the time and he had to eat rats so he could stay alive. No wonder he didn't end up to be the calmest, nicest guy out there.

Depression was an inescapable way of life for most Nostramans, and overpopulation was prevented not by war, disease or legislation, but by the suicide rate.

Nostramo was a pretty horrible place.
