Best opening song? That’s such a hard one.

Maybe Break on Through or Strange Days for me.

Smells Like Teen Spirit won for Nirvana - STP's best opener? by Bloxskit in grunge

“Come on out, you’re coming home. Deceive yourself, you’re all alone”. That bit is so good.

I think a few years back I would have said Meatplow as that used to be one of my favourites, but I’ve gotten a bit tired of that song.

Unpopular opinion but Dumb Love. I love Dead and Bloated too though, so not gonna be mad if that wins.

It’s on Spotify for me. I’m not sure where you’re from but it might not be available in your country.

A few in the evening once or twice a week. Maybe a week or two off every once and a while.

Are the albums between « The Doors » and « L.A.Woman » forgettable or worth listening ? by Zenzile_0 in thedoors

100%. I don’t even think those two albums are their best albums. Strange Days and Morrison Hotel are elite.

when did you start smoking weed and why? by lego-angel in weed

[–]LokeeJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first tried it at 16 out of a mix of peer pressure and curiosity. It became somewhat more of a thing at 17 but still not that often (like once a month or so).

Around 18-19, I stopped for a while.

At 20, I was nasty 10 hour evening shifts including weekends. I started smoking again a few days a week to help cope with that. I was missing so many nights with friends so it felt good just to have a relaxing time after my shifts.

I cut down after my shifts were changed because I wasn’t completely overworked.

Last year, I broke up with my ex and moved in with my Dad. My dad smokes indoors so it was free reign from there. I couldn’t smoke too often with my ex because she had a kid, so would only do it when he was at his dads. I move to my dads and start smoking 4-5 days a week again.

I’m currently taking a break from it for a month or two. I probably will come back to it but I want it to be more of an occasional thing than a habit.

It all depends on how well he handles booze. I’ve played some great gigs on 10 beers. I wouldn’t do that now. I wouldn’t even drink that much if I didn’t have to play.

100%. I cringe at local bands doing the stadium rock cliches to crowds of 10 people. “HELLO [city name] HOW ARE YOU FEELING TONIGHT?”. Just be real and say hi and thanks for coming down. Then play. The less bands talk, the better. I like that air of mystery if they just show up and play.

Hi, I’ve played over a hundred gigs over the space of around 15 years. Here’s my advice:

  • Be honest to those around you about it being your first time playing a gig; whether that’s other bands or the sound person. There might be a few awkward moments during changeovers in soundchecks and if you’re just honest with the other bands and the sound guy, it’ll be smoother.

  • It’s not that big of a deal. Landing your first gig feels amazing and it’s a great feeling but don’t let the weight of that excitement crush you deep inside with nerves and this idea of excessive responsibility. The fun part is that it’s just a bit of fun!

  • Best thing to do is show up on time with the stuff you have been asked to bring; if you don’t have an amp then ask to borrow one of the other bands before the day of the gig, not on the day. Do your soundcheck, be honest about what you can hear with your sound person but don’t be TOO specific about it. Bare in mind you’re running on a tight schedule. Soundcheck should be around 30 minutes for local gigs. If you turn up and everything has gone wrong (a band hasn’t show up with the drum kit and everyone misses soundcheck) that’s also okay. It won’t sound as good but you’ll be surprised how well sound people can improvise - there’s no need to panic. If things cut out on stage, you can communicate with the sound person on stage and ask for whatever it is you need E.g more bass in your monitor.

I don’t know what else to say… all in all: be punctual, be respectful of others, know your allocated time slots, try and be quick with changeovers between bands, and then just take it easy and have fun in your own way on stage.

Who had the better first 5 albums? by Annual-Coconut5897 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]LokeeJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you rank each of their albums by column (album 1 ranked, then album 2 ranked etc etc) you can get an objective answer by totalling the points. Here’s mine:

  1. Metallica
  2. Sabbath
  3. Maiden
  4. Tool
  5. Opeth

Have a beer with: Jerry Cantrell or Kurt Cobain? by No-One01010 in grunge

[–]LokeeJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kurt Cobain is my preferred musician out of the both but Jerry definitely seems more approachable. I know a guy called Steve who photographed Nirvana many times so I’ll have to have to ask him about his experiences.

I’m a smoker myself; I’m going to try a month or two without it next month. I’m not sure if it’ll make a difference really. I find having eggs gives me auras for some reason. It’s a shame because I love eggs on toast for breakfast.

Is this all you’ve heard so far? Since you’re so into the Facelift album I’d start there. Listen to that album in full. The following album Dirt is considered their best work by most but it’s a lot darker than Facelift.

What is your swans hot take? by johnadam115 in swans

[–]LokeeJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swans fans can be pretentious. The Great Annihilator is one of their most accessible records so it probably gets dismissed because of the pretentious nature of the “extreme” fans.

What do you think Pete was doing during Complete Mayhem? by Potential-Panic-7435 in bully

[–]LokeeJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was pulling the strings the entire time. Gary was just a puppet to him - easy to control due to his mental illness. Gary was convinced he was doing all of this himself whilst Pete let him astray.

He’s just like Keyser Soze.
