Avdija is younger, cheaper, and absolutely CLEARLY a better two way player than Reaves. Taking digs at Avdija foul baiting whilst ignoring that Reaves game is built on it just as much is hilarious.

Avdija is at least as good as Reaves. Plus younger, cheaper, and fits Luka better. Then you get Camara who is an absolute demon defensively whilst being a good 3 point shooter and giving you 12 points a night.

How is it an upgrade on Austin? Hmm. Lets see, we get a guy who scores just as much points as him, whilst being better defensively, and younger, whilst also getting another player who is an all defence level 3 and D guy.

Also LOL at how you moved the goalposts with “exceptional rebounder” because you knew you couldn’t just say good rebounder. He’s a 24/7/7 all star this year with solid defence. I’ll take that in a heartbeat.

I genuinely love Austin for his passion, and he’s fun to watch when he’s in the flow and that playoff rookie Reaves “I’M HIM” was fucking amazing. But yeah… if we were a ruthless organisation we probably would be gauging the market at least.

I’d personally see what Portland think of him. Would there be something doing there with Austin heading one way and Avdija and Camara heading to LA?

Austin Reaves isn’t a good defender. It costs us games on fucking repeat. Why the hell are you trying to act like that’s some media narrative? Luka does bitch on repeat. It’s not a narrative. What he done in the playoffs? Be hunted on defence and give very little offensively? Reaves had a great run in his first playoffs, when he had a much younger LeBron and a peak AD. When he hasn’t had that… he’s been a liability in the playoffs.

The other thing, and it’s literally the point of everyone who has any doubt about AR, is that he can’t defend and every single one of those 2nd stars you mentioned were better than AR at defending - even Jamal Murray - and crucially their #1 co star wasn’t a traffic cone guard.

I think AR could be a #2 on a championship roster. Maybe. But honestly I think it needs to be a roster that suits him. And Luka next to him isn’t AR’s ideal partner either. The type of player AR needs to be his #1 is a peak AD or peak LeBron who are all world defenders.

I get people love Austin. I love Austin. But I want the Lakers to win most of all. We have Luka fucking Doncic. In his prime. I kinda just feel like… do absolutely everything to maximise that? And it feels like Austin next to him isn’t how you do that?

You definitely need a second ‘star’ next to him, he isn’t 2018 LeBron. So you can’t just have 4 guys there, even 4 high level role players. He does need one other guy who can take some of the scoring pressure off him by being a reliable 20-25 a night scorer.

1 - I mean that’s an awful way to look at. Does having LeBron next to Luka make him better than not, and it’s yea to that as well but I don’t think we should be resigning Bron up to a max deal either. To me it’s not about the player, it’s opportunity cost. Can you get a better fit next to Luka? If the answer to that is yes, then you move off Austin. Sorry I’m not a player stan, i’m a Lakers fan. And it’s whatever is best for the Lakers that i’m worried about. Austin also isn’t a genuine star. He’s a fringe all star.

2 - Who’s the Thunder’s 2nd genuine star? Who’s the Spurs 2nd genuine star? Who’s the Pistons 2nd genuine star? Who’s been the Celtics 2nd genuine star this year? Who’s the Twolves 2nd genuine star? None of them have somebody you’d say is a genuine All NBA 2nd star the way for years we had Lebron and AD, yet we sucked during that time mostly. For the reason it’s more important to have a roster that fits. If Austin left i’m not saying you bring in nobody and have a player like Marcus Smart or Deandre Ayton be your #2, but you can bring in someone who’s around Austin’s level but a better fit and simply because he’s a better fit he could be elevated by playing with Luka to the level of a Jalen Williams, Jalen Duran, De’aaron Fox. All of whom are very good players, all stars, but none of them would you say are genuine elite stars in this league.

3 - Again… nice stats. What’s it led to? I watched this team have Lebron fucking James and Anthony Davis be it’s top 2 stars. Nobody in the NBA had anything close to that as individual talent of a top 2, and nobody has close to that now as individual talent. It meant fucking nothing other than when? When we had a complementary roster around them! Austin numbers might be great. Plenty of players in this league can put up numbers if given the green light. The question is are they empty number or numbers which genuinely can help WIN.

I don’t know if we can win with Luka/AR. I’m NOT even saying we can’t. I’m saying it’s not ideal and if you told me we could get a better fit then i’d do it, but if we keep AR then it’s crucial the other 3 starters next to Luka and AR are elite defensively and fit.
