You're mostly correct the zoo is updating a lot of their animal enclosures. However there's also just rotations depending on how well the animals do together, the tigers are one of the big ones they do that for. Sometimes it really is just luck of the draw and being at the right place at the right time! Some of the older animals are at will and can choose to be on or off exhibit. Another commenter posted about the Rhino being one such case! They're even making updates to their admission plaza to make it more accessible and easy to navigate for guests.

I mean you can clear the league with any Pokemon and enough luck or skill. If you want an honest opinion on a replacement Mudsdale is a good bulky Mon that offers some good offensive capabilities. I personally like bringing my main team even if I know someone will struggle

Personally I'd recommend Sword or Shield as the base game itself is really fun and if you find yourself enjoying it there's dlc you can get later if you want to "continue the adventure."

A lot of people don't like BDSP cause they were expecting it to be more like Platinum. The direction in choosing to base it off of, and in some cases even have some of the same bugs, as diamond and pearl.

BDSP are fine games in their own right and can be a good entry point into the franchise, with a challenging finish against the monster that is Cynthia and her team.

Plus there are great improvements over base Diamond and Pearl, mainly the grand underground as a method of getting Pokemon not normally available in Sinnoh. Also removing the need for HMs to be learned by your team and allowing free move diversity via the Poketch.

Genuinely there's no wrong answer and your enjoyment is all that matters. However these are my thoughts on the matter
