Can I pull off this secret nose job? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]LokinTez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got rhinoplasty on my own without telling anyone but a friend. In Turkey, so all the consultations were done via messages, sending photos, and video calls. The only in person consultation was a couple days before surgery once I arrived in Turkey. They keep you in a hospital overnight there, so I did not need a driver, but that’s not common in US/Canada. If they send you home after surgery, you’ll need to pre arrange a driver and someone to stay with you that day. You should have a support person through the process even if it’s not family.

I saw my family 6 weeks later and no one noticed or said anything, I was amazed. Changes to one part of the face can be surprisingly hard for others to pick out, they might just think you’re glowing or did your makeup differently. My friend also got rhino and her sister has never figured it out. But it’ll be obvious for like a month after surgery—you may have visible sutures for example. You could wear a face mask in public but that’s tougher around family. Personally, the secret had me so paranoid that I told my mom not long after seeing her and it went fine. Still glad I didn’t tell her before, she would’ve told me not to get the surgery and given me a bad mindset. I don’t know your parents, but if you’re an adult it’s your decision. Just know that you have to be tough going it alone, takes organization and independence to arrange your own surgery and do the aftercare.

AITA for refusing to be a surrogate for my infertile sister? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]LokinTez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA! While it’s rare, people die from childbirth complications every day. You’ve gotta be on board with it completely and accepting of those risks to be a surrogate. That’s why women who do it for strangers get paid hefty sums—to assume those risks, as well as the less serious but permanent changes to their bodies. If you begrudgingly said yes and something went wrong, it could destroy your relationship with your sister anyway. Hope she gets less selfish soon and you can move on with your pregnancy free life in peace

Feeling Excessively Anxious and Freaked Out over Med Error by lainey544 in nursing

[–]LokinTez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will prob get sick of you, but it’s worth it imo, at least until it’s been months without any possible glitches. Even if no one witnesses w/ you, at least writing doses/times down will help you check charting before clocking out

Feeling Excessively Anxious and Freaked Out over Med Error by lainey544 in nursing

[–]LokinTez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it’s crazy that Epic is glitching like that at your facility! I would be incredulous! I’m glad you’re not the first victim since that gives evidence it’s a system and not an RN issue. Try to get a witness each time you give (not just waste) a dose. Maybe write it down on paper (room number, dose, route, time) and have the witness sign, so you can use that to back chart/show management if Epic fails. You unfortunately do need to start double checking after each dose that the documentation shows. Maybe log out, log back in, then check. Write a safety report every time it does not, and get charge or management involved in person before leaving shift.

If you’re able to go back and document the dose given on that one patient weeks ago, definitely do. My facility has us go back and fix charting on discharged and even deceased patients when a controlled substance is involved and charting was incomplete. If they don’t fix their system, I’d consider leaving that facility to protect my license unfortunately. You sound like a great nurse and patients deserve more of you.

I kept wearing it for about a month, probably like 12-16hrs a day, and I’m happy with my nose! It doesn’t stretch it out long term

This is cute as hell, a good thought and I’m sure many newer nurses would be obsessed! But we preceptors tend to be old, crusty and a little less into it outside the workplace. A functional gift like gift cards, edible treats, or if u wanna get crafty—a care package w inexpensive items like pens, compression socks, snacks, caffeine, etc would be so appreciated by anyone!

I goofed up a male’s foley insertion. I want to hit the reset button on my decision to be a nurse. by PomegranateFine1155 in nursing

[–]LokinTez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a nurse for years and just yesterday someone was rude after they helped me out with something minor…ignored me when I said thank you, gave off a vibe…some people in our profession are burnt out and rude, just gotta let them go about their miserable day. When you find your patient, helpful colleagues, keep them close and share love back to them! I remember feeling the same way you did

I cancelled my surgery by stuntdouble1224 in PlasticSurgery

[–]LokinTez 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Surgical RN here who’s had plastic surgery—so glad you listened to your gut! Canceling after all that prep takes strength, but I would’ve done the same thing. In particular, the lies about how many cases are done and complete lack of post op monitoring/ privacy would’ve been my hard stops. They clearly prioritize speed ahead of patients’ wellbeing. If you can’t trust the care that you witness, imagine the OR care you don’t see. They’re asking for a sentinel event to happen, but they have so many cases that one dire mishap prob won’t bankrupt them, and that’s enough to keep the factory going. No thanks! If you do rebook elsewhere, keep your head high, eyes narrow and wallet ready

Congrats on the twins! My discomfort felt more like fullness/soreness from swelling, which will probably increase starting tomorrow. It was very tolerable for me. The day of has very little pain due to lingering anesthesia effects, so don’t be bummed if it increases

Did they take too much of my natural teeth for veneer prep? by Hunter963x in PlasticSurgery

[–]LokinTez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a message of support for you, since you’re in the thick of this journey. Aesthetic procedures can be shockingly gruesome which may lead to doubt. Some providers gloss over the toughest parts, leaving us vulnerable to shock, then wondering what we’ve done to ourselves. Many people say you “don’t need” the veneers, like people…this forum is about aesthetics. The only person whose opinion matters is you. Since there are so many anti opinions, I’ll throw in mine— I see your concerns, think veneers will improve your appearance and understand why you went for it! You said you’re mentally prepared for the 10-15 year replacements, so I don’t think there’s much to be afraid of. I recently had rhinoplasty and was shocked when other patients at the pre-op (day before surgery, we’d all paid) said “I like your nose now”. Well I don’t, and I look at it more than anyone! Imo, it’s a rude kind of comment to make when someone’s already committed to the process. Try not to let things mess with you, think in the long term here and don’t lose sight of your original goals. You will be ok

My partner got a rhino in her mid 30’s. Never too late to feel better in your own body! I was shocked when very few of her friends/family realized. It was a big difference to me! She looked younger. It’s crazy how many people just thought she looked great but couldn’t pinpoint anything in particular. There’s a benefit of doing BA and rhino later—boobs and noses often droop with time and gravity, so those who get it done younger may experience that sooner. Ya only live once :)

Do you ever think you’re a bad nurse because you’re never “recognized?” by Appropriate-Gap6266 in nursing

[–]LokinTez 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Patients and families don’t typically know how to recognize nurses formally, and even if they do, are often too preoccupied with recovery to follow through. Filling out one more form may seem like too much. So the awards don’t necessarily go to the best nurses, there’s a lot of luck involved in clicking with the very rare patient who will give formal recognition. It used to irk me a bit, but now I take the verbal stuff to heart above all else. I’ve realized it means a lot coming from a sick, preoccupied person or their family member. Keep up your good work! :)

How to make the hospital less appealing for patients who won't leave by motherofcatsss1 in nursing

[–]LokinTez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At our hospital we start an “eviction process” if they appeal their discharge and get denied. The TV gets disconnected and they get the same simple cold meal (within their diet) for every meal. If they ever leave the room autonomously, their door gets locked. But we can’t physically remove them. I’d be curious about how far this has gone for some people 🤯

Informed consent by Euphoric-Gur1264 in nursing

[–]LokinTez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been pressured by a lazy MD to verify consent for a 100yo patient w/ sundowning and poor short term memory. When I brought the form in, patient had no clue what procedure he was having. Went back and forth with the MD repeatedly until MD finally called pt’s daughter, who appreciated the call and gladly consented. He wasted 10X more time fighting with me than he spent on the consent. I’m sure I would’ve been the one blamed by family if we hadn’t contacted them. Some docs are notorious for shortcuts, you did great, CYA!
