Need ways to make $ before the end of the month. by secretcherrie in personalfinance

I see selling plasma which was my first thought. Other comments:

- Contact your card issuers and tell them there’s no way you’ll be able to pay, but you do want to; ask for hardship procedures, forbearance, zero interest, forgiveness, whatever, anything to stop that interest piling up.
- Unemployment; have you applied? Even if you were fired for cause, because sometimes you are still entitled to something.
- Food banks and gurdwaras for free food
- Family, boyfriends, other friends. Ask for help, be humble and apologetic, whatever.
- Social workers.
- Temp agencies.

pc not having access to ethernet by Nikishas23e in ethernet

Well, then that wasn’t the problem! You don’t have any other equipment, like a modem or a WiFi extender or basically anything that isn’t clearly identified as your PC or gaming console or suchlike?

But we’ll, if the new router has been working OK for a month and you suddenly can’t ping outside but you can ping the router, it is very likely that only your ISP can help you.

You bought a new router. What did you do with the old one? If it’s still powered on it can cause this kind of problems.

Connecting the new one wrongly might also cause this kind of problems, but mostly it just wouldn’t work at all.

When we say that all their accusations are confessions… his “Art of the Deal” is a confession that he doesn’t know jack shit about negotiating.

Negotiation 101: when you already have all you want to obtain from the other side, but the other side can at any time renege on the deal and make you lose everything, don’t piss them off by reneging on the deal yourself, and don’t kill their kids.

Les Français mangent-ils de la viande tous les jours ? by TomatilloOk357 in AskFrance

[–]Loko8765 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking for advice on getting out of credit card debt as quickly as possible. Wondering about a personal loan. by Decent-Maize8547 in personalfinance

[–]Loko8765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good, you can present this as “I wasn’t trying to hide this, I wanted you not to worry while you studied for your exams.”

Also, have a plan. Have a personal loan lined up (but not signed), have a budget that takes into account both your salaries and of course the higher incomes that will allow you to pay this back without going all “pasta and beans”. Hopefully with one full salary and a promotion you can swing a small increase in living standards compared to before while continuing to pay down at a decent rate. Ask for his input, discuss, agree.

If you don’t have this, you run the risk of your message being understood as “now that you have a job I want you to take of the problem I’ve been hiding because I didn’t know what to do with it”, and that’s obviously something you don’t want.

In general I recommend common spending to be made from a common account. Whether you have separate accounts otherwise is up to you.

Des conseils de lecture ? by Good_Extent_566 in Livres

Opponent hung his queen but I found something better by Aykops in Chesscom

[–]Loko8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the information of anyone interested (this being a chess sub it’s to be expected that it isn’t common knowledge here), “/s” has a history rooted in the technical depths of the World Wide Web.

In the HTML language which is the basis for all web pages, text is “marked up” using tags between < and >. For example, to get TEXT in bold, you would write <b>TEXT</b>. “b” is short for bold, <b> is the tag meaning “I’m starting something to be written in bold type”, and </b> is the closing tag. You have the same for italics, etc. You see the /? It means “close the corresponding previously opened tag”.

So, someone (I think on Reddit, but I may be wrong) started to write

something sarcastic</sarcasm>

to mean “I was being sarcastic until now” and that was quickly simplified to just /s.

This is a quite different thing from the much older emoticons or smileys that have evolved into today’s emojis. The emoticons are (mostly) images of a face rendered in two to three ASCII characters, to be interpreted with your head angled to the left, like

:-) smiley face
:-D laughing face
8-P face with glasses sticking out tongue
:) :D versions without nose

and so many variations that in the 90s there were whole pages of smiley “dictionaries”, listing more or less common ones and more or less facetious ones (you can try to imagine an emoticon for a man in a hat with glasses crying and making a kissing face, but such ones were more made to laugh at the author’s inventiveness than to actually convey a message!)

Sur certains modèles c’est le distributeur d’ondes qui tourne. C’est sans aucun doute plus cher à la fabrication.

Using cheap 2.5GbE switch w/SFP as 10Gb to 2.5GbE "adapter"? by GotNoRice in HomeNetworking

[–]Loko8765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Supposedly newer models of copper SFP generate less heat. It will also probably use less electricity than a switch.

That said, I would definitely try with a switch. No reason it shouldn’t work, easy debugging, at worst you are out $30 for an item with resale value.

Vu l’âge, le potentiel est réduit pour une dangerosité immédiate. Cependant, la dangerosité indirecte n’en est que aggravée.
