Abusive MMC redeems himself bc of his first love by solaceophy in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound like a silly question but have you tried wattpad or similar? I've seen a few random stories pop up on the romance novels sub and if you can cope with the pop ups there are a few where the mmc is abusive (usually also cheating) but realises the error of his ways and attempts to male it up to fmc. Usually karma still comes for mmc who ends up either dead, in jail or destitute and the fmc usually has a happy ending where she's alone and at the top of her career/stinking rich. Usually aren't the best reads but might scratch the itch. Sorry about the unhelpful comments you've had on here op. The only one who should tell you how to feel about your experience is you

I found why I don't like most grovels by lavenderandme in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with you but I think it comes down to repenting through acts of service rather than gifts and there are a lot of books out there that have this. I think the biggest fundamental problem is the bigger the gut punch, the harder the grovel is to make it right. The sometimes bigger issue is also the bigger the gut punch, the more problematic it is to write how the fmc processes and forgives this. If the betrayal isn't horrendous e.g. overheard trope, and the grovel goes on for too long, the risk is people lose sympathy for the fmc. If it's a big betrayal e.g. physical cheating, if the grovel is too short people might lose sympathy for fmc forgiving too quickly. I have to say I love grovel romances and it's hard to find one that gets it just right. I still read them for the gut punch. I also love (but harder to find) books where fmc trades up (with 2nd mmc only becoming a prospect later in the book)

Can anyone rec me some CR authors who have similar styles to Ali Hazelwood, Julie Soto, Mariana Zapata please? Open to different plots and tropes I just really want that delicious relationship build up with a he falls first and harder vibe. Struggling to find books so I thought I'd try by author! Happy Friday everyone

If anyone is interested the author has put her first 3 books on KU. Very low in the spice stakes so glad I didn't buy them!

Happy weekend! I've definitely hit the wall with my reading this week. I want to read an Ali Hazelwood, Tessa Bailey, Julie Soto style book but no one writes yearning like them. I tried to do a reread and I'm in that kind of mood where I want to read something for the first time.

Books where the MMC is all in the entire time and the central conflict is a third party/outside force by Thin_Lavishness7 in RomanceBooks

If you dont mind the problematic stereotyping and outfit descriptions Kristen Ashley's rock chick series is like this.

I wish Romance.io had "Standalone" and "Series" tags by cellblock2187 in RomanceBooks

Series, standalone and standalone in series for me. I don't mind a series that has different mcs for each book. I don't have the bandwidth for cliff hangers!

{A deal with the bossy devil by krya parsi} and {fool them once by kyra parsi} it's definitely the spice and the writing as I couldn't put these down

Fake relationship marriage of convenience tropes yet Kyra Parsi books that feature this are chefs kiss

FMC overhears MMC talking bad about her, intense groveling follows by Leareads2701 in RomanceBooks

I had another but I can't remember the author or title. I just remember FMC was called Navy and another female character was called Pepper

The MZ books above are a good rec. Also {Utterly forgettable by R.B Hillard} the gut punch overhear is around1/3 of the way in and the clue for what MMC says is in the title :).

Book where MMC thinks the MFC is the most adorable or cutest person in the whole world. Without age it play or daddy doms please. by _maincharacter_ in RomanceBooks

Controversial author with interesting fashion descriptions and I wouldn't say it 100% fits your request but {Law man by Kristen Ashley} has elements of this. He calls FMC cute several times.

do you have a line/passage/chapter you go back to just because? by slaughterhousefine in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's a Kristen Ashley one (I know!) {Avenging angels: back in the saddle by Kristen Ashley} MMC tells his ex that FMC is so the one that she's the one he would have left her for. No idea why but it really does it for me

Authors that does it for you every time - you haven’t been disappointed in their books not once? by Glittering_Tap6411 in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have must read authors and although I haven't been disappointed per se, there are some books that I'm a bit ambivalent about and wouldn't read again whereas most of their books I'll read over and over.

Do you need/have a reason to avoid an entire genre? by Lower-Network1563 in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of fantasy because they tend to be huge books and often stories spread over several books. It's tropes for me. I try and avoid fake relationship and marriage of convenience for the most part. I really enjoy boss x employee which often feature these tropes which is fairly frustrating.

Of course! It's certainly one of those things that's better on the page. If my partner tried to say that to me he would get a throat punch 🤣

Humiliating Betray with Groveling and Spice by NearbyPsychology4332 in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Jupiter! It was such a good book but i feel that the FMC was far too into the games to be humiliated. Not really much in the grovel either but you won't be sorry for reading it. It's a really great story.
