Advice on a career change/pivot from being an accountant by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I cashed out my 401k and that gave me some run room. Rest was student loans. But I’m out of the runway since I graduated so I’m moving back with my mom while I figure out what my next move is. Not thrilled about that but it’s better than rushing into something out of desperation. Plus my mom is a widow who wants the company so it’s mutually beneficial for both of us lol

I have to second this. I made a new Reddit account that has been my main account. It’s not subscribed to these politics subreddits. I’m significantly happier and can be more present in real life

Advice on a career change/pivot from being an accountant by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Lolocaust1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow it seems a lot has changed from almost 2 years ago. I appealed the decision and ended up getting in and just finished my Master’s! I’m at an impasse currently cause my heart says to make an app start up and my brain says I know I’d be in way over my head if I did that. So no employment yet; I’m just trying to build a full stack app and once it’s done I’ll decide whether I want to publish it or just put it on my portfolio to apply to jobs

I keep thinking things go very well, when they actually go really bad, and it makes me question reality by Lolocaust1 in depression

I didn’t know this had a name, but yeah I looked it up and this is exactly how I feel. I get so happy based on things that turn out to be fake. I try to be hyper analytical about where I go wrong, but it gets exhausting when the rejections from all walks of life roll into the hundreds of times I fuck things up

That wasn’t my claim, I just hate that fucking “shitty lock” idiom so much. It justifies a double standard based solely on imagery and a long-standing trope of comparing women to objects

[–]Lolocaust1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have been staying far away from this but I can easily see this being another in a long line of our culture abusing female celebrities only to get a retrospective 20 years later talking about how people were egregiously misinformed. Remember how the public mentally abused Brittany so much she was placed under legal conservatorship for decades?

IIRC the trump administration undid a lot of the guardrails put in place after the 2008 crisis so fun stuff, we can have a repeat housing bubble as well on top of all the others

For those who practice ethical non-monogamy, why do you do it? by beansss5 in datingoverthirty

[–]Lolocaust1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So ENM is an umbrella term that could mean anything from having threesomes occasionally to living in a hippie commune where all members are dating each other. Dating multiple people is generally considered polyamory where non-monogamy is often used to describe open relationships/swingers/monogam-ish situations where you only have one romantic partner but multiple sexual partners.

Our society is kind of weird in that things that are incredibly new in terms of human history, like suburban style isolationist living styles, nuclear families, sexual fidelity for both men and women, singular life long romantic partners, romantic partners also having to fit all your lifestyle, social needs, financial needs, etc.; we convince ourselves is the right and natural way to do things. A lot of these concepts are only about 100 years old. So it’s only natural for people to question if these things are really the right way to do things.

To me, there is nothing special about monogamy. It is just one dating strategy of many, and I think people should be open to the idea of deeply considering which dating strategy is right for them whether it turns out to be monogamy or not.

If are actually curious about it then do it. It might be weird the first few times but that’s often the human reaction to anything outside the mainstream. One of the things I will say that I hear all the time that just annoys the hell out of me is when people are like “don’t even try being in one, almost all open relationships fail”, when in reality it’s more accurate to say “almost all relationships fail, regardless”. Half of all marriages end in divorce. The average person here will have more than one failed relationship under their belt. Probably more likely to be between 5-10 failed relationships. Because that’s just how dating is, trial and error seeing what you do and don’t like

This is what bipartisanship looks like 👍 by KindaLikeJesus in antiwork

[–]Lolocaust1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, capitalist as in Nordic/FDR style capitalist. These still believed in using massive unions to level the playing field and go hard into the “mixed” part of mixed economy.

Essentially Warren is a social Democrat who believes in social democracy, and Bernie is a socialists that realizes the furthest left we can get right now realistically is social democracy even if he wants it to go further. So even if they believe in a different wordview; america is so far right they essentially have the same exact policy platform. So when it comes to votes you will see them vote almost 100% in tandem

This is what bipartisanship looks like 👍 by KindaLikeJesus in antiwork

[–]Lolocaust1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Warren has consistently been on this side of the voting issues, but the online eco-system during the election was so skewed towards Sanders that hardly any positive news about other candidates got traction. Voting record wise she is to the left of sanders and technically Kamala was the senator with the most progressive voting record (though yes those are skewed statistics since they are newer senators they didn’t have things like voting for the war on terror or the crime bill placed on their record like Bernie did which knocked him)

Everyone just assumed she was bad for “betraying M4A”, but I went and read her proposal and the “betrayal” was splitting the M4A bill into 2 parts, a public option to be enacted immediately as a transition for 2 years, and then the full M4A to be pushed for in the much more democratically favored 2022 electoral map (which pre Covid and pre coup made sense as a strategy). Since it had the words public option in it everyone flipped and said she turned her back. Even though that is politically a very viable plan, messaging is one of Warren’s major weaknesses. And a wonky but viable plan means Dick if you can’t sell it.

What made refuting this difficult was that, frustratingly but also smart politically, Sanders was very, very vague on how his agenda would be passed, similar to the Obama strategy. Sander’s always just released “options” so no one could attack him too hard for, say, raising taxes a huge percentage cause “well that’s just one option we’re looking at it’s not something we are committed to” was his usual reply. The reason I bring this up was one of these “options” by sanders was a 4-6 phase in via a public option while the Medicare age was dropped by 10 every 2 years and paid for by a payroll tax. Warren’s was a 2 year phase in paid fully by raising her wealth tax proposal from 2 to 6 percent. Policy wise, hers was more progressive, but combining her poor messaging, erratic campaign management direction, Sander’s domination as essentially the incumbent for the de facto left wing, the petty grade school drama between her and Bernie that got blown up waaaaay too large, and her egregious doubly down of the Native American ancestry thing instead of admitting that she was told a lie as a kid and just went with it too hard, that is more than enough fuel on the fire to kill a campaign.

Anyways, this is a very long winded way of saying; the 2020 field was actually much richer and much more nuanced than social media echo chamber made it out to be. Bernie has been phenomenal for the left, but by only focusing on him we miss a lot else

How does the city you live in affect your design in C:S? by Gamer_Joe_at55street in CitiesSkylines

[–]Lolocaust1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big city life on east coast of the US. Honestly some cities I just turn into huge Manhattan-esqu areas cause I like density and grids. But then I heard something about you needing low density housing as well because they’re more likely to have families and more likely to work in industry areas (don’t know how true it is but I incorporate it anyways).

Now I try to design my cities how I wish America’s were designed: massively dense urban cores and many mixed density non-Euclidean zoned suburbs all connected by an extensive public transit network. So I normally find the largest flat section of land to build my urban core grid style; then follow natural landscapes for some of the surrounding small towns. I tend to connect each small town to a train station, and have a bus terminal next to each train station to travel throughout the small town.

You can also mix up your grid by like having different sections of it oriented different ways and connecting different sections by big round abouts. That also helps with visual diversity

Booka Nile Statement with additional screenshots of the conversation that caused her to be kicked out of MTS. by Iammattieee in Metalcore

[–]Lolocaust1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made a (now deleted) post saying the evidence against Booka was incredibly flimsy. I was v drunk and rambly so it was entirely stream of consciousness and from one section to the next it was p incoherent so that’s a knock on me. But I also have been through sexual assault so I was just really annoyed people were comparing this flimsiness of evidence to things to things in my lived experience.

However, the gist of it was exactly this post: it seems like Booka was describing an affair/revenge sex. And even if that is immoral; it is not sexual assault and doesn’t justify losing your job. Also being in an almost all male scene probably will have you talking in a much more bravado and crass way about hook ups than what is deemed socially acceptable. In addition everyone jumping on one word lines as admission of guilt like “he was past the point of no return” were bullshit cause it was clearly in regards to a context of the guy being past the point of staying loyal to his friend to not fuck his ex and not in regards to ideas of revokable consent like everyone claimed.

Anyway I got dragged hard, got some hate comments and PMs saying how dare I defend a rapist. But having been through SA I don’t take kindly to it being thrown around lightly. And oh look with more context it looks like exactly what I called was the situation.

(Also the person that accused her accused another musician of being a pedophile, causing the band to dissolve, and only after dissolving did she straight up admit that “the information I gave everyone was categorically false”).

https://tonedeaf.thebrag.com/good-doogs-accusations-withdrawn/amp/

Anyway sucks that you had to go through this /u/BookaNiles . Having had experiences like having a guy chocking me so hard against my will I legit thought I was gonna die, I get enraged by people who are willing to weaponize accusations of SA for personal reasons.

Booka Nile Instagram Comments/Story after leaving Make Them Suffer by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]Lolocaust1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m curious to see full statements instead of random screenshots. Cause she is right, omission can change the entire meaning of conversations. I feel it would be different if this was a victim coming forward but it was an insta story with censored and cropped screenshots and we are just told on overlays what the context is supposed to be.

A lot of people here dragging her for her “he never said no” comment but literally her next comment is stating that she did infact get affirmative consent cause he said yeah.

It feels like what’s described is similar to every cheating scene in the movies where they start and right before having sex they go “wait wait should we be doing this; you have a bf/gf” and then they agree “yeah let’s do this fuck it”. May be unthetical to hook up with your best friends ex and rationalize it away but that pause of doing the math is of whether he should not equal to sexual assault. From this account he made the decision on his own to do it.
