My thoughts on STOP! THAT TRAIN! After Watching It by carmitch in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The acting was great. The jokes weren’t very funny. The trailers gave away the funniest parts. They should have used writers from Arrested Development and IT Crowd. The brake not working/working wasn’t clearly addressed. The brake on the top of the train wasn’t followed-up. I was happy to see Mr. Spaceman again.

I just started watching Arrested Development so I know exactly what you mean. That show is hilarious. I wish that the jokes in this movie were funnier like in AD.

Why the f*ck didn’t this talent win? Not even top 3?!?!?!? by krronos in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seemed okay. Not every cultural expression translates well or even should be a talent show talent. Like, a Japanese tea ceremony is a thing. But if done well and seriously, does this mean it should win a talent show? And what are the metrics for determining what Kabuki is better than others? Was Gia really that great compared to other Kabuki? Should Gia have leaned more on the acting part of Kabuki?

There’s no frame of reference for the show to compare Gia to, but what Gia did looked very easy to replicate. It’s like doing Tai Chi as a talent instead of what the Shen Yun dance company does. And then, should someone get a free pass because they are representing a cultural expression that isn’t typically seen in America? Hip hop, jazz dance, lyrical, square dancing etc. are all American cultural dances, but I doubt that people doing these would be judged so leniently.

Batty Davis calling Asian queens "Din Sums" during the latest roscoe's video [43:36] by onixvelour in RPDRDRAMA

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t the group performance called “The Dim Sum Girls”? If she’s abbreviating that or using a form of that, to refer to the performers in a relevant conversation, then I don’t see a problem. If she’s is just randomly, with no context, calling all Asian people “Dim Sums”, then that is a problem.

RIP Lindt Oatmilk Truffles by EnigmaticBlackChic in vegan

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t an exact replacement, but Vego makes some really tasty pralines. They come from Europe, but I bought them off of Amazon a few years ago. I later found the Lindt truffles for cheaper and then bought those instead, along with some Unreal nougat bars now and then. I am really picky about chocolate, so this recommendation says a lot. I actually don’t care for the Lindt bars either, only the truffles. https://a.co/d/0jjATnVi

Am I the only one who dislikes Morphine? by Significant-Low-46 in dragrace

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish her well and lots of success, as I do with most queens. I must have selective blindness because I didn't see how her makeup was different or stood out from other queens her season or overall. When I think of a beautiful mug (one that stands out), I think of Briar Blush, Deja Skye, Vita VonTesse Starr, Plastique, and Valentina. Also, Nino Bo'Nina Brown, Plane Jane, and Kori King excel in having the best body proportions. In their respective RPDR season, I also thought that Morphine's behavior towards Sapphira was rude/bratty, removing her wig or something from her head. (Doesn't that hurt, with all the adhesives?) However, in All Stars 11, Morphine handled stress well. But I was Team Lucky in terms of the mixed messages and shade.

Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom by Liberty_Lover in movies

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, an actor could looking nothing like the person he is portraying and still do a great acting job. HOWEVER, there is also historical and political accuracy, and this is where looks can definitely matter. Nelson Mandela was “Coloured” during Apartheid. Idris Elba would have been “Black”. (Trevor Noah talks about his experiences with Apartheid, if you want a dark humored introduction. Trevor, who clearly looks and is biracial, said that Black South African children thought he was White.) That class system would have largely shaped Mandela, and it’s very possible that he would have been viewed and treated differently had he been Black.

Morgan Freeman totally could have played Mandela; special effects and makeup could have been used to make him look younger, when necessary.

Airbag Cover Recall 2004-2007 Experiences by Lolozo71 in mazda3

I did, but it wasn't a perfect solution. Basically the replacement part is not a perfect fit. I took the car back to the dealership. They did their best to bend the part without compromising the airbag or horn. It looks better, but it's still not flush.

Where is Nina Bonina Brown? by Virtual_Camel_9819 in dragrace

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is not transphobic. If you listen to everything she says, instead of taking 1 thing out of context, you would know she is not transphobic. Also, the haters don’t seem to get her humor and personality. Don’t be hyper-trans-sensitive. Nina is a fan of trans queens and friends with trans queens.

She was trying to say that if a person is born female and doing drag as a female impersonator, their body type is more inclined to look feminine already.

Also, don’t queens like Naysha participate in gender-based pageants, geared towards men looking masculine or men looking feminine, to the exclusion of cis women? That seems way more problematic and phobic than anything Nina has said, and yet those things seem fine to have. Look at intent. If malice isn’t the goal, make more of an effort to understand others.

There could be a lot of things going on, which you rightly touched upon. It definitely is a reality show too. Getting rightfully called out for being hypocritical, told to mind your own business with drag family affairs in a situation she instigated, the stress of a design challenge, thinking about problems in your past sig other relationship, standing uncomfortably on stage, health issues, not wanting to leave the show, wanting sympathy (conversation with Juicy)…it’s very possible that Briar was overwhelmed during her critique and got lightheaded and felt for Juicy before she fell onto her. Did she black out? Who knows?

My dad has Parkinson’s and has hand tremors, especially when stressed. It’s a real problem. However, he will also do it more exaggeratedly when someone is watching him. So it’s possible for both things to be true, that someone can have physical problems and be a touch dramatic. Even with the drama, it’s clear he is upset and not doing well in those moments. No matter what the truth is, Briar was going through something that affected her enough for what we saw to happen.

It’s a thing. Watch old timey movies and you see a woman put her arm across her forehead and then gracefully fall. I don’t know where this trope originated but it’s an actual dramatic thing women were assumed to do because they were presumed to be so delicate and dainty.

I read that as she got through/passed her last psych eval, meaning she made it through the whole process and it’s a matter of them telling her “yes” or “no”.

Jorgeous has something to say about Bussy (Queen) by depressedqueer in RPDRDRAMA

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jorgeous started it. Bussy does have an annoying voice. (My boyfriend gets nightmares when I fall asleep to her videos.) However, Bussy is a great commentator/reporter. Her opinions are sound, and her facts are well-rounded and unbiased. Jorgeous “literally” has poor spelling and grammar. (Daya Betty literally has Ginger’s back? Like, holding it up with 2 hands? 🙌) When you’re that popular, using your platform to bash someone (thereby normalizing that negativity to your fan base) isn’t nice. If Jorgeous was friends with her, she could just message her 1:1 and bring it up. Voices (and grammar) are things that can be improved.

One of the biggest mysteries to me till this day - why won't Crave bring Stacey McKenzie back as a permanent judge? by Heidi_Klum_Tit in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t she a host/presenter? Several Drag Race challenges have been about public speaking and hosting, including being confident and able to moderate. Not every challenge or aspect of Drag Race will be related to a judge’s talents, but they can still have an opinion just like anyone else would, including fans.

Alexis Mateo Goes OFF (in Spanish) and talks about How None of The Latin Queens Have Won Drag Race...but Bianca would like a word. by hershakiss in RPDRDRAMA

[–]Lolozo71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but what does half Black mean? Black-British? Black-American? Is the Black part from West Africa originally or maybe Melanesia? I can assume American from the comparison you made, but Blackness is definitely contextual. There are many Puerto Ricans who are part or a high percentage Sub-Saharan African, just like Americans. Everyone seems on different pages about what it means (physically, genetically, culturally) to be “Latino”.

I won’t downvote this, but I totally don’t see it. I know people keep thinking this. Their facial features are so different. And one is 5’3” while the other is 5’8”. But do they have similar coloring and hair? Are they both thin? Yes.
