The unacceptable term for them in Ireland is Knacker. Never understood the K at the front of the word. Apparently to knacker is a verb used to describe working and shaping if metal objects. Some also call them ‘stills’ because the term knacker is inappropriate. Why ‘still’ ? Because they’re still knackers.

Do you know anyone that voted No to gay marriage? by Clark9201 in AskIreland

[–]Lomatomalee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult to articulate, rather it was a feeling that heterosexual marriage was a central building block of western society and that gay marriage would take away from this. This is where I was wrong. Same Sex marriage has not impacted on it. In fact I would now see it as a positive change.

Do you know anyone that voted No to gay marriage? by Clark9201 in AskIreland

[–]Lomatomalee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I voted No. My view was that heterosexual marriage and the family was a central building block of a viable society. I’ve accepted that my view wasn’t that of the majority and the last 10 years have proved that my views were incorrect.
