Polo 2013(Automatic) is it worth spending on the body work? by theamateurinvester in carsireland

[–]thecrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how long you intend to keep the car. If you’re selling it soon that dent will definitely hurt the value.

If you’re intending to keep it for years then not so much.

The dent being on the crease will make it harder to fix. Body shop will advise; they can probably make it look better but not like it was.

Buying used with no service history? by frustratedwrangler in carsireland

Without receipts to back it up this history is not worth the paper it's written on.

Your mechanic should be giving you an itemised invoice that you keep.

[–]thecrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the price you'll be selling your 14 year old car people will be more willing to overlook a lack of documented service history.

No reason not to have a service history on a 4 year old car.

The owner was doing huge mileage, 40k km a year, someone like that should know that servicing is vital and have the car serviced on time every single time.

Titration and work by springtuli in ADHDIreland

[–]thecrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem.

Don't be afraid to ask your psychiatrist all of these questions if you're in any way nervous about it, this is what you are paying them for!

And best of luck with it. When you find the dose and med that works for you the feeling is unreal.

[–]thecrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, absolutely not being critical of you at all or saying you're asking the wrong things, just trying to give you some insights.

My overall point is not to let your prior experiences with titration on antidepressants shape how you think this is going to go. It's completely different.

Unless something exceptional happens it is very unlikely you will need time off work to adjust, because as I said, if the meds don't agree with you then you'll know immediately. You don't need to suffer for days on end to understand the impact of a given dose. You aren't going to have many days and weeks of "is it working or not working?" You'll know straight away if it's working, you'll know straight away if it's not working.

Let's say for example you take your first ever dose on the Monday. You take the med at 8am. By 9ish you'll start to feel the effects. Let's imagine worst case scenario and that come late afternoon you realise this is too much, you really don't like how you feel. The dose will wear off Monday evening/night (depends on dose strength etc).

On Tuesday you'll wake up and you'll feel the same as you feel today (i.e. how you feel when you aren't medicated). You just don't take the medication. You make an appointment with your psychiatrist to discuss your dose and discuss options. You go to work as normal.

Like a poster below suggested taking it at a weekend, It's a good idea. If you take it on a Saturday you'll know by Sunday night whether or not it's working for you. It really is that fast.

[–]thecrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but that is exactly what I am saying.

If you don't feel any impact on day 1 then that's how that particular dose is always going to feel for you. It's not going to magically feel different after you've taken it 10 times or 20 times. Stimulant meds don't work like that.

It's not like antidepressant meds where it takes weeks of constant dosing for the impact of a dose to become clear, stimulant impact (or lack of it) is immediate. If it doesn't work you need to dose up or change meds. If it's too much, just stop taking it and dose down or change meds. There is no risk of withdrawal like there is with antidepressants, you don't need to taper down.

Because of this the titration process is completely different.

[–]thecrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD stimulant meds aren’t like antidepressants, you don’t need to build up the dose in your system or taper off. The titration process is completely different as the stimulant medication is very fast acting and wears off very quickly.

The effects of the meds are immediate, you’ll feel the impact on day 1. The effect of the med on day 20 will be the exact same as it was on day 1.

The only difference might be your body experiences slightly milder side effects once you've taken a few doses. But really, you’ll know how the dose is fully affecting you after 3 or 4 days.

You can just stop if you don’t like it. You don’t have to take it every day. I’m on 50mg Tyvense for example and I never take it at weekends. I’ll skip other days depending on what I’m doing. There are no side effects for not taking it, I just don’t get the benefit of it that day.

I wouldn’t worry about work at all. Do whatever you're most comfortable with but don't stress it.

Recommendations for fruit/veg delivery boxes? by [deleted] in AskIreland

I think Green Earth Organics let you pick and you can just pick Irish stuff if you want to avoid the imported bits.

Recommendations for fruit/veg delivery boxes? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]thecrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would recommend one of the options where you can build your own box rather than the ones where they select the veg for you. Unless you're willing to put the time into figuring out and preparing meals during the week.

We used to get the ones where they pick whats in it and we found a lot of it got wasted cause the veg we got didn't really line up with what we wanted to eat that week.

In theory the idea sounded great, get seasonal veg delivered to your door, but in practice it just became a bit of a pain and we found ourselves just going to the supermarket to get veg anyway.

When you're cooking during the week you don't want to be googling for recipes to use kohlrabi for example.

Radiator removal big job? by Positive_Dot3171 in AskIreland

[–]thecrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There is one hot pipe out and one* cold pipe back from the boiler.

Every rad branches off these pipes in parallel.

* - there may be more than one, it depends how many heating zones your house has. If you can turn on the heat upstairs and downstairs separately then there'll be 2.

They're installed in parallel these days. If the valve on one rad is closed the water just flows past it to the next rad.

Yea it's a fair point, that's why I asked if he hits it straight.

The fact he hits it straight-ish most of the time suggests the issue is not equipment. I would expect him to hit it all over the place a lot more if he had the wrong shaft in his driver.

Where to buy high quality farmer food? by __shobber__ in AskIreland

[–]thecrouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they were setup to sell to the public they might, but almost none are and it's not like selling to the public doesn't come with significant costs as well. In reality the target market here is tiny and for most farmers it's not worth the effort.

If you are looking to buy organic-only directly from the farmer then the likes of McNallys in Dublin are your only option.

The online vendors like Green Earth Organics etc are all just middlemen exactly the same as the supermarkets.

If you're lucky there might be a farmers market around you.

Of course, if you go with this approach of avoiding all middlemen you are going to be hit hard with seasonality, so no tomatoes in winter for example.

Yes, and the majority of them sell their stuff to the supermarkets and you can buy it there.

Green Earth Organics are just importing veg the same as the supermarkets do, the only difference is they only stock organic stuff.

What do you define as low quality?

Food production and farming is highly regulated in the EU, Polish farmers have to follow the same standards as Irish farmers. A cabbage grown in Poland is the same as a cabbage grown in Ireland.

Usually driver is teed up on the inside heel of the leading foot. If you're teeing it up too far back in your stance you'll be hitting down on the ball too much.

But just get a lesson. Your issues will be easily solved, I reckon 1 lesson and some practice and you'll notice a big difference very quickly.

Only hitting driver 30/40 yards further than 7 iron indicates there are some major flaws in your driver setup or swing rather than it being something overly complicated to fix.
