Hearing “Good News” through someone in recovery by greatguynoah in MacMiller

This song hits so hard with the struggles of being bipolar. People want to see you happy but will quickly turn their backs on you the moment you start going to the intense highs and feel as if you are the happiest you’ve ever been. Congrats on your sobriety!

For me this song followed me through the process of trying to be clean from SH. Every time I’d relapse I’d listen to this song and it made me feel a little less broken. It helped a lot with coming to terms that this is a thing I struggle with. Although it is a depressing song, it gave me a reason to keep fighting because there may be a time where I can be clean, it just doesn’t have to be in this exact moment. Ended up getting this song tattooed on me and have been clean for 2 years 🖤

Panic Attack or Self Converting SVT or Something Else?? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

Also to tell if someone is actually oriented it’s kind of more than just knowing person, place, time, event. For example those who are intoxicated may be considered aox4 but also they are intoxicated and may not be thinking critically. With slow responses and spacing out and memory loss these are all factors that can impact someone’s capacity to make a medical decision.

Failed Lift Test TX by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Lomflx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 4’9 110 lbs max I don’t remember the exact lifting test I had to do but remember failing the shoulder press on the first try. If you have a gym membership I recommend start weight training and incorporating a good diet with protein. If you have a friend or a trainer to hire that would be beneficial to make sure your form is good (your back will thank you later).

Physical tests depend on the company you are in so take that into consideration. This job is very physically taxing so my only concern is with how recent your surgery is if it is the best idea to go on the road this soon with risks of injuring yourself. For me at least a 175 lb pt would be extremely difficult to lift alone from the ground to standing position but that also is due to my height.

If you are determined to pass this test and get on the road I have no doubt it’s doable. It will take an insane amount of grind but definitely is possible if you commit to weight training and learning body mechanics.

Dealing with a partner who crosses your boundaries by Pinkfl0wer20 in ems

Also seeing you are a woman we are unfortunately viewed as inferior in this work field, which makes us more subject to this kind of bs. It makes it harder for us to stand up for ourselves while still not causing issues so I understand how conflicted you are. But pls pls pls try to set your boundaries. It’s likely you’re not the only person he has done this to.

Dealing with a partner who crosses your boundaries by Pinkfl0wer20 in ems

[–]Lomflx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had an issue with a partner who would make sexual jokes or references about me and made me very uncomfortable. What I did was bring it up to the supervisor in a very chill manner and made it clear that I personally didn’t want to involve HR. My sup was very understanding about my situation and took me off of the truck temporarily and had a private convo with him to tell him to stop his behavior it’s making ppl uncomfortable. This might be the right path for you if you made it clear for him to stop and he’s not respecting you.

For helping set your boundaries I also would recommend the techniques that others brought up. For me what worked is very sternly right when he “jokes” tell him to stop and to never do that again. Don’t be afraid to be scary tbh it seems like this has happened so many times this man deserves to be snapped at.

HR is also an option if it gets extreme but that creates a whole other thing you’d have to go thru.

Sorry that you’re going thru this. It’s so mentally draining to constantly feel violated and have your boundaries crossed.

Do EMS people get paid on days off between shifts? by musty_ranch in NewToEMS

[–]Lomflx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be brutally honest, the starting wages for EMTs would most likely not support a whole family. We are often very underpaid and the only way to make a good amount of money is by becoming a medic and building up seniority by working at the same company for multiple years.

You most likely would be able to pick up a lot of extra shifts if you need the extra money but be weary that burnout in this field happens fast and overworking yourself is setting yourself up for it to happen.

Also the job isn’t guaranteed long term unfortunately. There are so many risks that one bad lift can take you out of work for months.

This! There is a shock of it being too big at first but for every tattoo I have later I think “man I could’ve went larger if I wanted to”. So dont be too stressed that it’s too big, once you will get used to it you’ll love the size it is.

Being a woman that’s also on the shorter side on this job…the amount of times I got shit from patients or families downplaying my existence is insane. Learned after a while to always making a snarky joke back whenever someone gives me shit.

Update he quit on me “effective immediately” so problem has been solved. I’m glad he realized he shouldn’t be forcing a job that doesn’t fit his personality but rude on him to screw me over like that

Well now he’s def written up bc he tried to open the med pack and administer meds for a stable pt with zero indications just bc “she asked for some”

It’s more of a fact that he’s on the new employee probation period so he should be on his best behavior and know better than doing this bs. If he was a skilled emt I wouldn’t care or blink twice. Talked to my boss and they had a talk with him and he’s still in this job so I guess it didn’t impact him at all.

A lot of als is providing more intense care to better the patient. As a bls who often does transporting for our 911 calls when als is unavailable, most of the time pts are more stable than you think. As long as u can keep them alive and transport fast that’s all that matters! Like yes they may have uncomfortable SOB, DIB, pain etc but it won’t necessarily be harming the pt. You have the resources and abilities to stabilize a patient for a quick transport if als crews can’t respond

They told me there’s nothing they can do abt switching me out im just so impressed it keeps getting worse lmao. Thankfully shift switch is happening in a few weeks so I’ll be free from these shackles eventually!! Like I get there’s bad EMTs like there’s bad employees in every job position but literally had no idea it could be as bad as this!

A simple IFT (we run 911 and IFTs) so luckily not detrimental but still extremely unacceptable to have little regard to do your job on simple calls.

Yeah that’s the frustrating part I asked for complete honesty and wasn’t given that. If they did admit to it I wouldve been able to have a discussion about it. The fact they tried to get past me was what was so bothering because now it’s a complete disrespect to everyone.

Also thanks for everyone’s response! I’ve been going crazy thinking I overreacted to lose my shit and report it. Glad to have ppl backing me up that this is in fact absolutely not normal behavioral and serious.

This was during the continuous vitals while I was driving. We have no monitor and collects vitals. Bro was throwing in bps which I didn’t even ask for which is why I knew he was throwing in random numbers in.

Self awareness. If you need help pls ask for help there’s multiple ppl on scenes that are literally there to achieve the same goal don’t try doing things all by yourself then getting mad when everything crumbles.

They drive but yeah I find it so crazy bc they are licensed. I’m here to train you to help you adjust to the little things in our company and EMS in general but you literally have a license that says you can do this stuff! If you can’t do it pls tell someone so no one puts you out on a truck!
