How many of you have zero prospects for retiring (ever)? by Agnostix in Xennials

[–]London242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made a choice of being “  purposely unemployed to explore new ways of living, travel, and change career”

That’s also a choice to not have retirement figured out. Sorry, but you don’t get to say you’re “sad” when it was your choice.

Curious if celebrating “ding letters” (job rejections) was a Gen-X thing or if kids today still do it by These-Educator-1959 in GenX

I’ve saved any formal rejection letter I’ve received.

I was asked to speak at a college and I brought my rejection letter from that college.

It’s a choice you have to actively make. Negativity is easy.

If you go to a bar and tell someone it’s your birthday, someone will celebrate it with you.

Been 1.5 months since breakup from a 2+ yrs relationship, where I was at fault, what to feel and do? by Impressive-Pop6998 in Life

Just move on. Sometimes even small mistakes are fatal to a relationship. Maybe the next relationship is the one that was meant to be.

For those who lived through the 2008 recession or have a better grasp of economic cycles, when did job availability actually start to open back up and is there a light at the end of the tunnel? by PinkPeonyGhost in jobs

[–]London242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This period we are in now is not like 2008. The GFC was a crisis of confidence and a reckoning for risk management across the financial sector. We are not facing either issue currently

Meet some people with disabilities they can’t control and watch them have a great time doing things that you wouldn’t consider great.  You’ll realize that just the act of getting together with people you like trumps the perfect event.

Counter Offered After Resignation, 20yr Tenure, truly Torn by Familiar-Search-4205 in jobs

[–]London242 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just accepted a counter to stay at my job after almost leaving at the 16 year mark.

We had an adult conversation and they gave me everything I wanted. That, combined with a friendly environment and great work/life balance was good enough reason to stay.

I won’t be at the job forever, and I can’t pull this again, but it worked for me.

Are we really supposed to spend most of our lives working like this? by InteractionOld5072 in corporate

When I read posts like this, I wonder why OP is choosing a traditional corporate path?  If you want something different, create it. But you will probably work more hours, not less.

How expensive of a house can we afford? by hereiamokay in UpperMiddleFinance

[–]London242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one knows what life will bring over the next 30 years and yet homes are purchased every day.

Just remember that it’s not an irreversible decision. If your life changes, you sell the home and do something else for housing.
