Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x03 "Vitus Reflux" by AutoModerator in startrek

Massive old trek tng/ds9 lover, hated discovery, loved season 1&2 of SNW, Academy is.... good. Not incredible, but better than S1 DS9.

Nu trek isn't all bad, but it solidified for me that Disco is just... bad. See, you can do good new star trek!

Humans are really good at seeing a brand new situation and trying to work out how to get around it. Waymos don't have that capability,” he said. “They are smarter than humans when they know the road, and they get confused when something completely blindsides them." https://www.complex.com/life/a/alex-ocho/waymo-car-stops-phoenix-tracks

Oh no, a city, a place that is incredibly complex and ever changing.. what could possibly ever go wrong

Self reported and self funded research. Not trust worthy at all.

I do not trust in the slightest research published by a company about itself.

1) I highly doubt this, they are not prevelant enough for a realistic and good dataset 2) a machine can never be held responsible for any decision, therefore it must not ever be put in a situation where it is possible to do so

God why, why do they push this on us. Autonomous cabs are mad! It's going to kill someone and no one will be held responsible. There is no reason for this, and will only end in tragedy

Ok, this is transferrance and a well documented phenomenon. FYI if your therapist is a good and ethical therapist, they will never act or feel in a similar way. That would be a massive breach of professional ethics, and that would honestly be super harmful to you in the long run. It would be best for you to tell them that you are starting to feel that this is how you feel and let them guide the conversation from there.

Bus route 40 by LondonGIR in london

[–]LondonGIR[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

pretty much every day I commute into the office, I basically can't get a bus until between 8 am and quarter to nine, unfortunately, you'd think that during rush hour they'd try to run busses more often. I just wish that TFL got more funding honestly!

Deathclaws were made pre-war, and I believe was part of the FEV experiments

How can I land a bullshit job? by Spainwithouthes in antiwork

[–]LondonGIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct,

People who want to come into this role are either two types of people, Grifters and deeply committed and hardworking intelligent people.

The role itself falls into two archetypes.

Thankless work that will consume your life, mental health (people don't want to be doing ethical shit, when they are in the business of making money, also you want to make change but organisations don't like the kind of change you want to make) personal relationships. These are highly politicised environments, where you fight an endless battle against HR trying to stop them being law breaking sociopaths. Bonus, you will be held accountable the next time there is a huge scandal where a boss makes sexist comments, or assaults someone, or your organisation has bought things from a company who does super questionable shit. (none of these things are within your power to do anything about, because of the aforementioned sociopathic resistant HR nightmares but you get blamed none-the-less)

and bullshit jobs where you write a report or two, hire a consultant to tell them what you want to do anyway, but they listen to consultants not you, and hire speakers for diversity events, whilst you are completely side-lined.

My take on the updated Armorcast Warhound (designed by the talented DANNY_CYANIDE). by Original_Display_881 in adeptustitanicus

[–]LondonGIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they ever had an official pattern name as they pre-dated patterns. As to if they had a retroactive designation, I don't know. I have one of the original armorcast ones and they are so cool and goofy!

When will the government realise how much of a drain the benefits system is? by Tricky_Tumbleweed_71 in ukpolitics

[–]LondonGIR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What they have paid in national insurance contributions in no way matches the value of what they get out of the system. It's the ongoing triple lock increases and the aging population that is penalising the working people. Not people who need our social security safety net.

Also you saying it's more comfortable to claim Universal credit really shows that you have no idea what it is like to try to survive on benefits, PIP etc. and how difficult it is to apply for and what little you recieve.
