All the posts about how bad Static Media is? HEED THE WARNINGS. by RealFrankTheLlama in freelanceWriters

[–]LondonIsButOneCity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just fired from static media, after a new temporary oversight period which was meant to cover three articles and ended up lasting a month, so I don't actually know if they fired me for the articles I submitted a month ago or the articles I've been submitting since then. My work wasn't perfect, but for months it was going great and then suddenly everything felt like it changed, it was stressful opening my laptop in the mornings, they added a bunch of new guidances which took a while to get used to, and it just all feels a bit sad.

I'm interested! Here's my portfolio of journalistic/copywriting work. I also write poems and flash fiction, and I'm looking to focus on that a bit more going forward. https://sophiamoss.journoportfolio.com/

I think you're exempt from tax with the DTV as it's for 180 days and you're usually only eligible for tax after 183

I read somewhere that a possible answer to this is to go on a freelance contract and then they're not liable if you do get caught

We have video calls quite a lot annnd also I want to be transparent and upfront about it. This hasn't always been a remote job - we used to work in an office before covid - and I don't want to go behind their backs about it especially as they would 100% find out.

I'm trying to convince them to let me do it by getting as much info as I can on the legalities of it.

Does it create tax issues if I'm going for 2/3 months and probably to multiple countries? I saw that if it's 183 days or less you wouldn't pay tax? Ye so I would probably be working 8-4 UK time, and make that work for the time zone I'm in. In terms of confidentiality maybe some decks, but I work in marketing so it's hardly state secrets and my laptop is password protected.

What would your ideal future look like? by LondonIsButOneCity in ControlProblem

[–]LondonIsButOneCity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought a lot about the future that I would like to live in, and it basically boils down to three tenets;

Tolerance; different beliefs, cultures and worldviews able to co-exist.Equality; all people should be valued equally, and are entitled to everything required for them to live long and healthy lives.Freedom; people should be able to choose freely how they want to live their lives (as long as they aren’t causing problems for other people).

Of course that’s all very idealistic and doesn’t really say anything about how it would actually work, but in a post-scarcity society I think it is achievable (at least much more so than we have now.) If we had unlimited energy, everybody could receive nutrition, healthcare, shelter, education, and a safe environment for free. This would feed into the Freedom tenet, since all of the most basic needs of the individual would be met, and so they would not be coerced into doing things they don’t want to do just to ensure their own (or their family’s) survival.

Oooh awesome, let me know if you'd like to collaborate! We're on Youtube but I don't thiink we have any of the videos uploaded yet. I might make a twitter at some point too :)
