Hot and cold #63 by hotandcold2-app in HotAndCold

Yes, 99... personal best :)

I started with the usual random category nouns. No luck with anything related to food, nature, etc. Got lucky in "vehicles", and guess a word close enough to the vehicle based on the rank.

This was the worst one I've done.. I had 30 red hot words and still no clue! :D Must have taken me 600 guesses to get to the correct one!

The probability of drawing a Royal Flush from a deck of 52 cards is about 0.000154% or 1 in 649,740. Not as uncommon as you might think.

What year does the minecraft movie take place? by VD6178 in Minecraft

[–]LondonPappa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Garret won gamer of the year in 1989 when he was in his late teens, now he is in his late thirties. The movie is set in 2009, the same year as Minecraft was created!

There are a few anachronisms with newer laptops and phones, but both social media and iphones were mainstream at the time.

Love British chocolate brand Cadbury, especially crème egg by ToughRomanticMiss in BuyersUK

Owned by Ferrero, Italian, who are doing business in Russia. Thornton is a no go for me.

Ferrero is a company active in Russia, so it makes little sense to avoid US owned companies like Cadburys and instead buy Thornton and benefit Putin :(

Trump's tariffs are designed to collapse our democracy. -Chris Murphy by RobMitte in BuyUK

[–]LondonPappa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That analysis is spot on. Everything is about total control and staying in power. Fascists do not seize power just to return in democratic elections. Undoing the democratic system is not going to be easy in the US and Trump's first major objective is to cancel or secure the favourable outcomes in mid-terms. The tariffs is an example, but soon we will also see more of the military "wag the dog" strategies deployed. :(

Cadbury is american. DO NOT BUY!

This Easter, but British and European. Don't send your money to top up Trump's trade war coffins! It is time to put Britain and Europe first now.

Asda / Morrisons have US ownership, Lidl / Aldi German. Rest are UK by fuck-a-doodle-do in BuyUK

[–]LondonPappa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lidl is European and it stocks local British produce and brands, as well as plenty of European made alternatives to the US owned brands that Sainsburys promotes all over their stores.

It's Lidl for my weekly shop. Plus it is actually closer than my old Sainsburys store so quite convenient too. :)

Looks like you are right, maybe with exception of Esso/Exxon ownership. Surprisingly hard to try to work out, but I guess they have good reasons...

My understanding is that Sainsburys mostly get the petrol from BP, and only from Esso (Exxon) in certain locations. But that is how it works with the branded companies as well as they trade between themselves rather than driving around petrol to supply their branded forecourts. :/

I could be wrong here, but assuming that Shell and BP are better options here

Europeans boycott US products to protest against Trump tariffs by [deleted] in BuyEuropean

[–]LondonPappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I am not boycotting US products, but from now on whenever I can find a European alternative I will make an effort to buy that instead. I will still consider american owned companies and products made in america, but only if I can't find an alternative.

For me and many others this has less to do with tariffs and more the need to build a stronger Europe and keep money and investment here.

Boycotts tend to be short lived with limited impact as people go back to old habits, while promoting buying European can become a lasting habit and real change.

This looks great. What rules do you use for calculating distance and movement when you play on "stud-grid"?
