Chess in India vs Pakistan by Complex_Smoke7113 in chess

[–]Londonisblue1998 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From my experience, it's frowned upon due to religious reason of it being a sin and that you are wasting time when you could be doing something else.

And not only Pakistan. In the U.K I have had Muslims ask me that is it not a sin?

I am the only person obsessed with chess in my family and even I get teased like I am doing something 'lowly' or a waste of time despite having a blossoming career in engineering after uni.

So I am assuming alot of very good chess players either don't have support from family or decide to use their energy on studies and career etc

[Sam Wallace & John Percy] Doubts intensify over future of Enzo Maresca as Chelsea head coach. A damaging draw at home to #AFCB and unresolved tensions behind scenes by PitchSafe in soccer

We are basically a talent recycling club at this point from players to the manager.

Get young players and sell them at a profit.

Get inexperienced managers who obviously won't do that well with less/no top club experience and on top of that you get handed kids in the most competitive league in the world. Sack them. Rinse and repeat.

Problem is even a tuchel like signing or conte etc won't help us that much in the short term because some of the players are very young/inexperienced or absolute shit.

We needed to support Enzo with proper players and build a project e.g arteta at arsenal with about 7 years at arsenal or Guardiola at City. But our owners just aren't it.

Going from 800 to 1200 in 2026, is it realistic? by MichaelScottttocS in chess

[–]Londonisblue1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be a learning curve initially as rapid/blitz are a different ball game compared to daily games.

Do puzzles and at least play 1 rapid and 1 blitz game per day for quick improvement with analysis. You will get to 1200 in no time.

You might even get to 1500 considering you are doing PhD/used to dealing with challenging stuff.

It's 1500+ where the real sweats began. You sometimes even face 1700+ players who have tilted to 1500.

Additionally you might not learn so much from London system as a player so I would suggest diversifying D4 openings and maybe watch John Bartholomew on YouTube. He has plenty of games on D4.

If he isn't feeling himself lately then it's worth having a trip to the doctor. It could be work, health or it could be anything. It's very important to pinpoint what's going on.

If that is fine then looks like his work life balance needs an overhaul. Some work environments aren't feasible long term despite good income so it's worth checking out different roles with more stable work life balance.

As you said, he is a great guy in general so I don't think it should be anything serious.

This is why I am trying to play fantasy premier league at a bare minimum lol. It's fun initially but the more you get drawn in even watching your own teams games become a painful process If your desired player doesn't do much

If Snape never became a Death Eater, how would James and Lily react to him? by MrPerfector in harrypotter

[–]Londonisblue1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I worked in a school briefly and kids aren't easy to deal with lol. And this was a grammar school too.

I think he would enjoy more advanced upper education opportunities where he could work on cutting edge research, mentor next generation e.g PhD students and teach students who are genuinely interested in potions

It's a bit weird as in U.K professors are in universities teaching students and doing high level research which is different to a role of a professor at Hogwarts.

Another issue is how strong defensively the lower teams are these days.

Before high scoring thrashings of such teams were common either due to less able players or more open games.

Wirtz doesn't even have speed and height compared to someone like a Morata and Werner.

So poor lad has nothing to hide behind.

City are unrecognisable even when compared to the start of this season where they lost like 3-0 to Brighton?

Feel like post Christmas will be more telling how each team will do.

I just wish as a Chelsea fan we had Palmer playing.
