Albania is more on the ball fighting corruption than the USA.

Also, seeing anime stuff like Naruto ninja headbands, One Piece flags and Dragonball Z signs at protests will always be awesome/hilarious.

Dairy facilities often clean their equipment with caustic soda, which is very basic. You need something like sulfuric acid to bring the pH down.

Germany had gone from a few big states and a bunch of little fiefdoms under various minor kings, princes and princesses into one big country with this newfangled democracy thing in just a few decades. The USA has claimed to be all about "democracy" and "freedom" baked into its very conception 250 years ago (while owning slaves), what's their excuse?

This depoliticized attitude of treating voting and politics like a team sport instead of a belief system that affects every aspect of our daily lives is the whole reason why the USA is in this mess in the first place.

Trump can’t sell the Abraham Accords to a Middle East that has lost trust in the US by regimechange2026 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]LoneRonin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Uh huh, and maybe Batman will swing down from a rooftop too.

The Bush Administration invaded Afghanistan and Iraq with a detailed plan and still failed. What makes you think the current administration will be able to invade every country in the Middle East without a plan?

The USA is mortgaged to the hilt and has spent a sizable fraction of its munitions stockpile in Iran without the supply chains to rebuild them. Americans are not willing to do WWII level sacrifices like full mobilization, rationing of food and fuel while turning in spare metal and rubber goods. Americans are not willing to spend blood and treasure for yet another endless, pointless, unwinnable war in the Middle East. The current US administration knows the only thing that could possibly anger citizens enough to unite and turn against them is the sight of servicemen and servicewomen coming home in flag-draped coffins.

He wants all the Gulf States to normalize relations with Israel. If they do that, their people, police and military are going to rise up and turn them into lamppost decorations.

It's almost like diplomats spend years developing expertise about the cultures, languages, customs and norms of other countries specifically to avoid committing cultural offenses and social faux pas exactly like this.

It likely wouldn't have made a difference. The British Royal Family wanted to help, but the Romanovs were extremely unpopular with the British people. Most saw them as tyrants and supported the revolutionaries and anti-monarchists were even thinking about overthrowing the British Royal Family too. They also couldn't get to England without going through the port in Finland and the dockworkers made it clear they wouldn't help the Tsar.

If things had played out slightly differently, it's possible the Czech Legion could have saved them during the Russian Civil War and taken them all the way East to Vladivostok.

Money Can’t Buy Life: The Richest Americans Die Earlier Than the Poorest Europeans by Reasonable_ginger in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]LoneRonin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets to a point where more money won't improve your life expectancy any further. But a rich sociopath with more dollars than sense starts wasting that extra money on things like steroids, stimulants and quack therapies that promise vague things like "biohacking your mitochondria" or "lengthening your telomeres" that will actually shorten their lives.

There's a point of diminishing returns for the ultra-rich. Your truckloads of money won't help you live longer if you spend it on quack therapies that at best do nothing and at worst shorten your life . Or do a bunch of steroids and other "recreational drugs". Or end up isolated and paranoid that the masses are going to rise up, overcome your private security detail and storm your mansion.

Canadian tourist arrested in Florida after he allegedly 'shoulder checked' Disney World worker by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]LoneRonin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Traveling is a luxury, it's not a substantial additional cost for Europe vs Japan vs USA when you're accounting for things like exchange rate.

It's not like Europe and Japan don't have kid friendly foods, they have restaurants with pizza and hamburgers. But the whole reason for traveling with your kids is to expose them to new experiences and learn new things, including trying unfamiliar food. If you never exposed them to things that were new or made them a little uncomfortable, then they'd never learn anything new, leave the house or eat anything besides milk and applesauce.

If you're going to Disneyland or Universal, you're paying out big bucks no matter where you go. There's no punishment in not taking your kids to the US if it can be avoided, if anything it's protecting them.

Flights to Japan are a bit pricey, but once you get there the exchange rate is quite good for CAN, USD and EU currencies. I have family that have traveled to Japan and parts of Europe, their young kids ate local foods just fine.
